im starting this forum like a poll. i want to know (and sure others too) how many of you tuners have actually gotten crank walk on there 2g and wanna hear all the people that havent. please just leave a reply if u have gotten it or not. thanx-greatly appreciated

just wanna see how common everyone makes it seem

My friend's '93 Talon is walking. The clutch sticks to the ground when you push it in and if you push in the clutch and rev it, the clutch unsticks.

He could also have a ball stud in need of a few shims. That's exactly what happened to me.

Well my 98 has 105 now, i am hoping that im in the clear and that I just need to replace my clutch soon and not the whole damn engine. Dont have the moneys right now!

Is there a writeup on how to fix that somewhere? He's been bugging me about it ever since he got the damn car (which I pretty much made him buy, haha)

97 AWD....122k miles...3rd ACT2100 clutch, car has survived many 6k RPM launches. Factory timing belt. Went 13.8 @ 98 with an intake and boost controller, stock clutch. T25 was overboosted past 22psi for 70k miles until the bearing exploded. And it's still fine...

Before you tell me how ignorant I am, I just bought the car, and would assume that its a freak. :talon:

Stock tolerance is .002" - .007" with .009" given as the max value. The reason they closed the thread is that the cw issue has been beat to death with a stick. Good luck. :thumb:

good stuff. thanks for the feedback man.. :thumb:

i got a 97 gsx and so far no problems... i put the act 2600 in about 600miles ago and have only launched it like twice... i only drive the car a couple times a week and week it garaged... i take care of my baby LOL. what do i look for for crank walk cause everything seems to be running fine....

Another update:

.....1/11/05(417 voters).....11/14/05 (602 votes)

'95 – 24% CWed...............26% CWed
'96 – 28% CWed...............24% CWed
'97 – 29% CWed...............28% CWed
'98 – 8 % CWed...............6.5% CWed
'99 – 13% CWed................11% CWed

Whatever they did as a “fix” in the ’98 model year, does appear have helped some.

But the problem with this poll is that people who have originally voted for “No CW Yet” have no way of changing their votes, so I suspect that the actual numbers are a bit higher.

Sounds like what I did with my car. I bought it and drove it every weekend or so kept it pretty much stock for about 5k miles. Then I put a ACT2600 in it, checked for crankwalk while doing so - it had none what so ever. About 1000 miles later I blew the tranny. While it was on the lift to look at the tranny I pryed on the crank pulley and what do you know, it was walking pretty bad. I had NO symptoms of crankwalk, no drivability problems at all. Took out the thrust bearing - it was worn badly. Then I swapped in a built 6 bolt.

I went 140xxx miles on my '95 7-bolt before running too much boost and doin some valve damage. Went to 6-bolt after that.

I own a 97 Eclipse GS-T NCW so far...BUT, I need to get it checked because she is being really ###. to me right now "DAMN, my desk is aluminum in college is aluminum...need to knock on the bed post"

ACT 2100 series clutch
Fidanza Flywheel
Mobile 1 Synthetic
Never hold the clutch in at Red
I beat the crap out of my car alot (....I get happy boost too easily)

Thought I'd throw in my number. While my car hasn't totally died yet, I voted "CW'ed" since the last time I had my car checked out, the service manager called me out of the waiting room, walked me over to the patient, looked deep in my eyes and said, "Eric.... you have crankwalk." And then I cried. (dramatic pause) :) No, seriously, they said the crank had noticeable play in it, so it's only a matter of time. I don't show any of the usual symptoms: the ticking, the phantom clutch pedal, the RPM drop, etc. The clutch engages extremely low to the floor, but I'm pretty sure I just need a new clutch/TOB/master-slave cylinder service. Eventually I'll be switching to a 6-bolt, but until then, the car runs strong at 163,xxx miles on the original engine and stock clutch. I'm not driving it much this winter, so we'll see if it lasts a bit longer with no cold-weather starts. Hopefully she lasts long enough for me to afford a 6-bolt swap.

I'm at 178k and haven't had and trouble that i can tell what do you think the chances are at this point of getting cw

Wasn't '98 the year they changed from a 1 piece thrust bearing to a bearing with seperate thrust washers?
