Can I run this head? Botched oil port mod.

Can you take a marker a trace around the problem area and take a picture of the head without the head gasket on. That will show us how far it extends in. The sealing ring is the little metal area and if that has material to seal on then you should be ok.

The nick does go into the sealing ring, that's the problem. The gasket sits right on top of the nick. I'll post a pic of the head without the hg on.

Direct quotes from my machinist:

Flip the gasket over, and look at the sealing bead. The gasket will seal, there will be no oil issue.

You have .375 approx of compressed gasket all away around that aera also

That same gasket material, has to seal 160? 185? of static compression, and how much dynamic compression under boost?

Around that oil port, max oil pressure it will see is what? with a max oil pressure with a BSE and an un ported OFH about 100 psi.

If there was a groove to the outside if the head, or the into the fire ring, THAT would be an issue.

Like I have told you on the phone, that little nick, is not going to cause the head/engine, or head gasket to fail.

Finish build your head, bolt it on and go run

That ring is there to seal the gasket so the composite gasket will not flake from the die cut edges and put trash in the oil

Checking 2 other 4g gaskets, one an ITM, the other is a evergreen one, it has a sealent beed that almost touches the fire ring of the combustion chamber.

Without the HG on.

BogusSVO did this to my head and he claims it will be fine. Hopefully everything works out considering this is his second attempt at machining a head for me. I'd hate for $20,000.00 to be wasted cause of a problem with the HG sealing.

That looks like crap to me nothing like that would go on my car than again I also know what im doing. O well I wouldent run it

How do you have 20k in your engine?

In my build overall. I have like 5-6k in the engine but that's just a rough estimate.

It'll be fine according to him. I'm just mad at my overall experience with him and the work he did. We'll see how things pan out once she's finally running.

Its fine, run it.

Regardless if you think it's fine or not you're missing my overall point and what has transpired thus far. As a paying customer this cylinder head (second one at that) is unacceptable.

It is going to seal. That area will only see oil pressure. If the combustion pressure reaches that area then the head gasket has failed.

Hum, sounds like the, too much Google and no experience mod ... Bad news Bogus ...

Bogus is the one that created the mod he just did a bad job when he did it on my head. I just want people to know what I've been through thus far with BogusSVO. He hasn't done me justice.

Its going to be fine. Bogus is correct, that ring is only there to prevent the die cut edge from introducing trash into your oil. Also, you must consider the fact that the fire rings and the oil port ring must be compressed to the same thickness as the graphite- composite material, otherwise, youd be pissing coolant and oil all over the place because there certainly arent any rings around the coolant or oil drain passages, and if the metal rings werent compressing down so that the composite is doing the sealing, there would effectively be gaps between every oil and coolant passage in the block and head that doesnt have a ring around the hole in the gasket, wouldnt there?

I did something similar when opening up the oil port on my own head. I was being really careful and the damn bit just caught for a split second and skipped out of the groove.

My fix was to mix up a small amount of JBWeld and dab it into the recessed hole with my finger. I let it dry a full 24 hours and sanded it off with a sanding block and some 600-grit wet paper. You can't even feel where the groove was at all anymore.

Years ago a friend's YZ125 race bike had some pits on the head surface where the gasket sealed and it kept pushing coolant. It pitted because he used straight tap water in the cooling system. I did a similar fix with the JB and wet-sanding it on a flat surface until the pits disappeared...and he raced that bike the rest of that season and all of the following season with zero cooling issues. Saved my buddy about $150; I considered that repair "permanent". ;)

I shouldn't have to use JB Weld to fix the SECOND cylinder head machined by BogusSVO. I don't know if I'm taking crazy pills or what. I sent the first head and it came back ruined so he did a second head and now it's still messed up. I just have really bad luck I guess.

I don't care if he's correct or not. This second head should have came back absolutely MINT with zero problems. He not only didn't offer to fix this problem but he didn't offer a refund of any kind. He messed up the first head and then sends me this as his fix.

Its fine. It will seal up just like its supposed to. Run the piss out of it. If it does leak "which is highly unlikely " it will just leak down the back of the block. "If" that happens you can say "i told you so" No damage to be done. Quit over thinking it and just do it.

So0o0o are you even asking a question or just publicly complaining? Seems like you don't care for the answer.

+1
There's a parts review forum. If you want to tell the world your experience do it there or take it up with Bogus. Otherwise, start taking the advice being thrown around here. I think JusMX is probably the best but I wouldn't hesitate to run it without the JB weld fix.
