I have a 96 Eclipse GS-T last week after I put in gas and went to work after 5 hours of being parked it would start, the engine would shake violently and then stall after 3 seconds. I had it towed to Aamco the next morning they diagnosed it as being a bad camshaft sensor. So I towed it to my friends where his uncle worked on the car for me and when we did the research unless I am wrong it looks as if the camshaft sensor is actually a crankshaft position sensor on a 96 Eclipse??? So after replacing it took a few times to start it up after blowing a cloud of white smoke only the one time. And after turning it off and trying to restart the check engine light comes on and it starts and stalls again after 3 seconds. If I unlplug the battery and reset the check engine light code the car will start and run but it's tapping loud like a diesel engine and it has no power and it seems like its being fed too much gas and my it's not sucking in enough air as my bov makes a weird wooshing sound. Can anyone help me with what could possibly be the problem???? And are there both a crankshaft and camshaft sensor on the 96 Eclipse? Did I replace the wrong thing???

OK I don't know if that was really the problem now though. I think that Aamco was just trying to get money out of me I dunno. I talked to the people at Autozone and they said after replacing that crankshaft that I did I have to drive for 30 miles for it to reset. Well I did it and the engine is not tapping as loud as it was however it still is not getting any a whole lot of power or airflow and still feeding too much gas. Me and my buddy drove it around Reno where I live for 35 miles came to a u turn it stalled. Tried to start it up and wouldn't start. So I unplugged the battery reset the code and while I was doing it I noticed the manifold was glowing red hot. Drove it on low rpm's to the next place we could park and let it cool down. My friend that was with me called another friend and they said it is a bad catalytic converter. Does that sound like a possibility?
