So i just purchased a used Big 16g for $50. It needs rebuilding, owner says new seals because the oil leaks into the hotside causing it to smoke. Fins all look good in pictures. I just need help on a few things:
1)Will my stock side-mount be sufficient for the Big 16g?
2)Also, i know i need a bigger fuel pump, 190 with walbro install kit needed?
3)650's injectors sufficient?
4)stock 2g manifold ok?
5)Is it safe to buy an ebay 16g install kit? why? why not?
6)How much does it usually cost and where should i take my turbo to get rebuilt, and should i get it ported?
7) I have the keydiver chip (which has been awesome thus far) will it correctly work with all of the above?
Thanks.

stock side mount would work fine alone with the manifold and o2 housing. Iam running a 16g on my car i upgraded the clutch flywheel fuel pump put a fmic on it only for looks and injectors. But as for the manifold i just ported the hole to the turbo a Little just to let it flow more.

Sidemount will work just fine. I just barely upgraded to a fmic just becuase I got a good deal on it. You will have to make a custom setup if you do want to use the side mount because of the j-pipe. I have a 255walbro fuel pump and stock injectors and it runs pretty good. I would upgrade injectors until you get a good way of tuning and a Fuel pressure regulator other than that your setup looks pretty good. Let me know if you need anything else.

1)Will my stock side-mount be sufficient for the Big 16g?
Up to a certain boost level, yes.
2)Also, i know i need a bigger fuel pump, 190 with walbro install kit needed?
190 pump and 550's at the bare minimum; possibly an Evo VIII or IX stock pump and Evo 560's if they can be found cheap enough.
3)650's injectors sufficient?
Probably to around 25-28psi.
4)stock 2g manifold ok?
Once the collector area is ported to match the inlet of the Big 16G, yes.
5)Is it safe to buy an ebay 16g install kit? why? why not?
You don't need a complete install kit. You only need a j-pipe and an oil supply line for the 16G, preferrably a 1G feed line from the head for the proper pressure and restriction.
6)How much does it usually cost and where should i take my turbo to get rebuilt, and should i get it ported?
You won't need it ported for the boost you're planning on running, and rebuild pricing varies. See my freelance ad for more information.
7) I have the keydiver chip (which has been awesome thus far) will it correctly work with all of the above?
As long as the chip is burnt to match your injector size, it will basically correct the stock fuel curve globally to compensate for your larger injectors. Any additional fine-tuning will need to be done with something like a SAFC.

Some argue porting is never necessary as you're only opening the throat of the inlet which can ruin the velocity of the exhaust flow; you're not changing the angle at which the exhaust enters the housing.

A FMIC is always a good idea to prevent heatsoak, but it's absolutely vital to performance once the boost pressure is at or above 18psi with the 16G unless you have water / meth injection to help cool the intake charge.

So jus are the 560s enough for that boost, im looking to turn the boost up. To about 20 psi, but i am looking for some 650s down the road.

That's a good question, I didn't even consider the fact that it would be a knockoff but it's a possibility. You should post up some pics before I package up these rebuild parts to send your way....MHI parts will not work in a knockoff turbo.

Damn, did i just get shafted or what? I had a couple users tell me it indeed was a 16g. I guess not all dsm owners are legit. sad. What can i do with a 14b, since i got it for $50 can i make it into a 16g?

My buddies got a 14b and it may not be what your looking for but its a really good start. That thing pulls pretty hard for him not having a ton of mods and the turbo being stock on a 1g, with a few other mods you cold have yourself a quick car.

IF you keep the 14b you shouldn't need more then a 190 lph and those 560 CC injectors should also be sufficient unless you plan on running pretty high boost.
(That's what he's using and like I said, It pulls pretty strong)

The stock sidemount will be able to handle the 14b, no doubt about that, but you can also find a nice FMIC in the 400 dollar range if your wary about it or if you have other supporting mods.

IMHO I think the 14b will do you just fine for now, especially if your newer to cars and your looking for a quick DD, if not you could always go the Evo316g.
