hello, I registered on the site to find some info on a turbo I purchased from a friend of mine. I got a big 16g turbo from him in july of 08.... anyways I came on here to see if yall can help me find out what type of 16g it is. Here are some pics of the turbo. There are no serial numbers on it so thats why I'm posting. Also how reliable is the turbo?

Thank you for you feedback in advance.

Hate to say it but that looks like a China 16g. Pretty much it's a cheap knock off of the real MHI EvoIII 16G. Some people have had success, others have had them implode after a few hundred miles, your mileage may vary. Just know that it will not be as reliable as a genuine MHI product.

hi there quite reliable but is it and evo 3 gt form ebay? if it is its not a gunuine td05 evo III turbo and might give you troubles as some have found out on here (shaft can be f*@ked when you get it) try searching aswell it might give you more on an idea on what you can achive with it and how reliable it really is. ive seen people on here with 350-450 bhp with this turbo (with the right upgrades aswell mind) but try a search first thats your best bet.

also what other mods he got going with this turbo!

I have a type rs bov already.... and all the hardware needed

I still gotta purchase
injectors 60lbs
vulcan intake manifold
vulcan turbo manifold

*note this is going on a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt SS with the 2.4l ecotec*

im out of this convo then as im not sure on the likes of chevy and i dont want to say the wrong way but its an ebay so dont expect great figures. if ts going on a chevy would it not be better on joining a forum for them cars as they might have done this conversion already theres only wo much we can do! unless its just me and im not in the knowlege LOL:D

Well if you're looking for a fast spooling turbo that will give you 350-400 whp then I would look into the EvoIII 16g, the real MHI one, not a knock off. I'm sure you can find some here in the classifieds.

oh right i see your point as we use them alot i guess but anyone that knows anything about turbos should know something if you tell them what you think it is alot of turbos can be identified by codes and (eye if codes not applicable) whats that mani next to it in the pic? that not going on the chevy then!

I do have to admit mine is stilll going strong, I bought it in the summer and sees nothing under 18psi. Daily driver and no shaft play. I drive my car hard too. Good luck

your one of the lucky ones then as someone said they can implode or shaft play and leak if its not sealed correct.

...Yeah and then I could slap on a GT4202 and be so far ahead of that turbo too  The entire point of my post was that an E316G could be had on here in great condition for under $450, I think you'd have problems finding a GT-K for twice that.

^^^ that looks brutal and sexy^^^

is it half that thing would make you kick back in your seat so hard i think anyone would get whiplash ROFL

well i hope it works out well for you mate with the conversion and all drop some pics of it in the hang out section or on here if your allowed? (unsure rules and stuff) would be good to see the finished peice. good luck
