hi, i wona upgrade my turbo on the gsx, and there is so many choices dont know which one to buy, so i asking you pepz wich turbo is best for under 1k for street/strip setup thanks,

well it really depends on how much you want to spend... you can make 400 hp with a greddy t4, however I am very pleased with my t6, its a bit more costly and a little laggier but you can get a lot of boost with this unit hence making more hp, however make sure if you are going to get crazy with boost that you do some work to the bottom end of your engine so that you don't damage things and end up costing yourself alot more money and work.

Before you post you should learn to check the VFAQ.
Before you ask about a TURBO!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you're going to ask a question about a turbo here on DSMtuners, be sure you've read this whole message. We're going to be a little more strict about how turbo questions are asked in order to maintain the high level of quality in the forums. This is usually the most popular question, and the first question by newbies - and it shouldn't be. The truth is, you never need to ask which turbo to buy. You can answer your own question by reading and doing research on each turbo to find whether or not it will work for your goals. It's mostly personal preference anyway, as most turbos are capable of performance numbers that the average tuner will probably never see. Most of your questions can likely be answered by performing a search on the turbo name.

- Before you ask:
1. Be sure you have all your engine mods listed in your Profile.
2. Be sure you first understand what supporting mods are needed for larger turbos - check the Tuning Guide linked at the top.
3. No "X"-Turbo vs. "X"-Turbo threads... these are never useful.
4. Use the Private Message feature to ask various members about their setup.
5. Please avoid asking questions about turbo specs, unreleased turbos, or other questions that can be accurately answered by simply calling the manufacturer directly or visiting their website.
6. NO vague "which turbo should I get?" type questions. This tells us you don't even know the capabilities of the turbos on the market. Do your research and then ask a more intelligent question when you are more informed. Click the "Advanced Search" link up top and start looking for info on each turbo name.

- How to ask:
1. Ask about specific turbos only.
2. Title your thread specifically about the turbo you have a question on, and ask a specific question about that turbo.
3. Give all the information you possibly can in order to allow others to offer useful feedback.

- How to post an answer:
1. List your mods and achievements in your Profile.
2. List what your goals were when you, yourself were turbo shopping.
3. List what turbo(s) you went with - not which one(s) you didn't.
4. Post your experiences only for the turbo(s) you've used.
5. Do not give opinions on the turbo(s) you have no first-hand experience with.
6. Do not argue with other turbo owners from a competing manufacturer.
7. Stick to the topic. Give your feedback on the turbos in question. Don't try to talk the person into going with a different turbo manufacturer.
8. No bad-mouthing turbo manufacturers - use DSMreviews.com to review a part or a vendor.

NO ARGUING

If people ignore/begin to stray from this format, we'll be closing threads without warning. If you posted a thread and it was closed, it was because you did not follow the guidelines above. This should take care of a good amount of needless arguing and hidden agendas. We're confident that this will improve the quality of the turbo-related discussions that take place here in the forums.

Popular turbo names to do keyword searches on:
You can find the names of all of the most popular turbos in our Parts Catalog. It's located here:

Search the forums for the turbo name before you ask a question about it.

Thank you,

400 crank or wheel horsepower? A 50 trim can give you 400whp with all the right mods ie cams, porting etc. Id say to easily attain 400whp, go with a 60 trim variant. But If you want a 50 trim, the best seems to be the FP green.

you know with a quick glance through your profile seeing the mods and how nice your car seem's to be set up it really seem's odd that you even have to ask this question....I would say just do a little searching and find out what turbo best fits your needs there are many variations of turbo's out there cabable of 400whp

td06h-20g they run about $450ish new can get you in the 10's w/all supporting mods and track time, look at Switzer,Glazer, and Shep. back in mid 97' they all broke the 10 barrier with simple setups and a very outdated pms.

Oh my God! Some of you need to stop posting...seriously!! Greddy T4?, T6? WTF! And as for 20G's going 10's, those times were accomplished by the masters of the sport, with very light cars. No one in this thread is going to go 10s on a 20G, ever! And I wouldnt give a 20G costing 500 bucks a second glance. They are most likely knockoffs, or rebuilt pieces of crap.

You want 400whp? It's quite simple. Get a 50trim, with all your supporting mods and have it tuned decently.

why cant anyone on the board ever do 10's with a 20g?those masters started from somewhere, and back then they were pretty much still learning about these cars.Im not starting any problems just dont say never and have a little faith in some folks on the board, you would be surprise on how far some people would go to run 10's or better in a dsm,and yes the 20g's in fl are rebuilds with a 1yr. warranty,Im sorry I forgot to inform everyone.

what is the best 325-375 HP capable turbo, and i dont want to buy a 16g or a 20g, i mean THE BEST 325-375 capable turbo, i dont want a factory stock turbo i want a dual ball bearing, cost is not an issue, what turbo would you recommend

I would suggest the AGP L1R, if they still make it. It is supposed to flow about 45lb/min, and is dual ball bearing. There is a write-up about it on the boards here. It is rather expensive though.

Another option through AGP would be this:

If you have a 2nd gen, the FP BIG28 is hands down my choice.

i have another question too, how come DSM guys usually shy away from turbos that are not offered as a factory turbo. I rarely hear (read about) anyone putting in a 2871R or like a 3071 RWG thos are badass turbos, for only like 250 bucks more than a ported out and redone brand new 16g, not to mention they flow about 450 HP and are full ball bearing

http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/m...OD&Product_Code=GRT-TBO-003&Category_Code=GRT

that turbo is dual ball bearing, in its most efficient range up to about 400 horse and good to about 450 Horse and it has a T-25 inlet flange, i realize its 1000.00 on that site, but theres other sites that will sell it for less

The main reason people shy away from those turbos is that for us to use them we need a custom manifold, custom o2 housing, custom downpipe, and all new oil/water lines. It ends up costing close to $2,000 when all is said and done if it's done correctly.

That t25 flange is different than ours. We use a mitsu flange. There are quite a few varieties of t25 and t28 turbos out there, but none of them work on our cars without alot of hastle and extra parts and money. The 2871R and 3071R WG are good turbos, but for the money vs. performance factor, lots of people go with the 16g series of turbos because they are proven over and over a million times to have good results, they are cheap, and easy to install.

what about the SBR GT-10 is that good for my goals, and ive heard it spools like a 16g, do you know anything about it, like when does it fully spool 20 psi cause i read a lil about it and that turbo interests me

I would like to know what would be the best turbo setup for my 2g 4g64 i dont want to use a t25 or t28 and i heard a 16g is good but i want to put serious power and if i do what type of power could i accumulate with a good turbo :thumb:

i have a 2g with a jdm 6 bolt i have all mods except for a fmic but it will come! I have a t3 t4 sc61 trim ported and i dont like it all that much i had a 20g from hahn before it on my 1g diddnt like it all that much either. I bought a awd so i can be quick from the get go but its so slow to get spooing?? I have a 1g with a 14 b stock and its a rocket ship compared to my 2g on get up and go . I do know with bigger turbos comes lag, i dont like LOL I want a big turbo with lots of power and really quick to spool up ! Whats the turbo 4 me???

Go back and use some punctuation!!! This is not an IM to one of your homies!

Get dsmlink or something of the sort and you can get some spool off the line.
