hi, i wona upgrade my turbo on the gsx, and there is so many choices dont know which one to buy, so i asking you pepz wich turbo is best for under 1k for street/strip setup thanks,

i already did the first part of what you said, and now im dsmless    ,i'm sorry man i gave in to temptation iput the ring on and fell into the darkside.with any luck i'll have my gst-/gsx by next year.i just got tired of the limitationsof my n/a.i needed more power, cheaper.i mean let's face it.dollar per dollar the 420a will always be 1 step behing the 4g63.i know iknow the satisfaction isn't the same, but if it makes you guys feel anybetter,i sold it to some rich kid that was popping a boosted 420a in there from his last eclipse he totalled.so the car fullfilled it's destiny, just not with me..the kid was also boosting his gs because he couldn't pay insurance on a gst/gsx.he spent about 4g's on the engine alone,he said he was at 290 whp on a stage 3.oh and doing the labor at his dads shop or something.just my .02

I'm with the other guys, the greddy turbo kit is overpriced, much better choices out there. Like was already said get a 2g, evo or sbr mani & port it. and get a new O2 housing or atleast port your stock one. EVOIII is a great choice or if your looking for abit more maybe a 20g. You'll also atleast need an upgraded smic but a better choice would be to go with a fmic. Might also need larger injectors.

I don't ever listen to rich kids HP claims :thumb:

I was at the local custom shop and this dad was in there buying a lift kit for his son's CJ5... why couldn't I be born into a rich family!? He was getting rims, tires, lift, brakes, seats, everything! He said it was his son's birthday.... GOD!!!

I am a high school student who can't afford insurance on a turbo DSM :thumbdown LOL... and with that said I was just curious on what my best option would be for turboing my N/A. I am looking now so I can start saving for which ever I decide to go with so I can hopefully have the kit bought and installed by the end of the summer along with other mods such as an exhaust and such. Would I be better off piecing together a kit or buying a kit thats already been made such as the star kit? What are the ups and downs of doing one or the other? Thanks for your help guys!!

(This will be going into a 96 Eclipse RS)

does your highschool have an auto shop? a mig or tig welder? then custom is the way to go by far. im in your exact situation and im doing just this, and im looking at it costing only $700, just because im fabricating everything. heres a price list so far:

I have:

T3-$100
Crushed 1g BOV-$40
SMIC-Free

in the mail: T3 oil line kit- $70

Need to order:
vortech fmu-$179
Missing Link-$69
Walbro 255-$106
Weld Els for manifold-$50
Manifold flanges(could make myself but would take too long)-$30
Gauges(Boost, Oil pressure)-$100
Gauge pod-$30
intercooler piping-$30
Intercooler couplers-$15
exhaust piping-$20
Vaccume lines-$20
Random nuts and bolts-$10
Gaskets-$15??

i believe thats all... now that comes to a total of $854 roughly. those are all prices from the places im gonna be getting it from. now my parents are paying for the fmu for christmas cuz i never ordered the struts they were gonna get me... that drops it to $675. extremely cheap compared to the other kits out there. sure it will take a bit more time cuz i gotta weld and fabricate all the pipes and the manifold, but hey id rather pay with a little more time then with a lot more $$ :thumb:

Thanks for the replies guys! I appreciate it. Snoopy- I have 8 points off my license and an accident... Speeding was because I was running rrrreeeeeaaaaaalllllllllllllyyyyyyy late for practice so I was doing 84 in a 45 :thumbdown and the accident some ladys brakes "just locked up on their own." and had no where to go :thumbdown so buying a GS-T or GS-X are both out of the question. GSGoinFast- I do have an auto shop here at school. I could be very intrested in doing it this way as well. Are you coming up with your own designs and such or are they coming from somewhere else? Also what part of Illinois are you in? I am originally from the Urbana area. Thanks again guys!

its sorta my own designs i guess, im not following any blueprint, but im just gonna make a basic log style manifold similar to the kit's manifolds, and then im just going to make the piping accordingly so it will fit with where the smic is mounted and what not. are you in auto class?

Im up north of chicago in lake county. went through urbana once LOL

hey i made my turbo kit for 1200 and will be done next week.
t3 turbo
35 mm wastegate
streetsource manifold and downpipe
ebay front mount
vortec fmu
walbro 255 fuel pump
t3 oil line kit

i would look into the fuel setup dsm zero is using though. he is using a aeromotive fpr which takes the place of your stock fpr. seems a lot cleaner than a fmu but the gas mileage might not be as good.

8 points is alot better than losing 20 like I did

This is true!! LOL. I was also just curious if anyone had a complete list of parts needed in completing a turbo kit on my own? GSGoinFast - Im not actually in Auto Class but I am in a CAD class so what im thinking about doing is designing parts off pictures and specs of other turbo set ups, then having the welding class make them and the auto class install them. :thumb: Thanks for the comments everyone!

It is alot claner BUT one thigh that tie's my whole fuel system toghter is my alum. fuel rail

as far as Gas mileage I averaged 20-25mpg diving in normal conditions "every day driving"
I like using the AFPR it is alot eaiser to tune than the FMU

Did you even look at his supporting mods before you made this suggestion? Why dont you look closely and try again.

Did you even look closely at everyeone elses first responses such as "full garret" or that he simply asked for "What is the best turbo" not what is the best turbo for my application or my mods. Maybe sir you should look closely and try again.

Wow that's super and still doesn't allow you to jump at people since he asked "What is the best turbo"
