Do we have any AEM EMS users on the site? I have a 96 GSX and Looking for some assistance setting up a base tune on my V1.
Don’t want to make a long thread with history, but basically it’s a old garage project that sat 10-14 yrs.
Something happened years back and ECU was reset and no base tunes were saved on a backup . So I have few choices. Switch over to ECM Link or upgrade to Aem Ems V2. The car was setup with a speed density setup ,secondary fuel pump to kick in at some point and use with the AEM sensors.

I betting ECM Link would be easy, but since it was originally setup on AEM , things may not be compatible .

Take it easy on me, I know I’m over my head.

Tks Don

Will your car start? Can it idle and or stay running? Do you have a lap top? Have you gone to AEM's website & download the tuning software "AEMPro" that came with the V1 for tuning? V2 isn't much different than V1, just improved some with added memory, faster sampling, & a built in UEGO controller if I remember correctly. Yes, I'm running V1 since 2003 and daily drive like OEM. Works well when setup proper.

Who in 2021 would "upgrade" to V2? That platform has long been replaced by the infinity, which is a million times better. The safety features alone should make you want to switch to it. I would not spend any money on a v1 to v2, but I would however go from v1 to infinity.

I was un aware of the Infinity system , but just looked it up. Looks like I’d have to go with a 506 and a evo harness( swap some pins )

today I dropped the injectors off to be cleaned, emptied the old gas in the car.

I’ll read up on the infinity system before I decide what route I’m taking. Thanks for mentioning it.

Car won’t start, I did locate the software to load and the usb/data cable to connect to laptop. Watch a AEM pro base tune setup video. I might try my V1 once I het injectors cleaned.. I’ll touch back once I get closer. Thanks for the assistance.

If you're wanting to test things out with your V1 I'd suggest using the 1310 MAP startup calibration file. This is for speed density & should be configured enough to get your car started and running enough to tune from. During the initial loading of the calibration use the "wizards" and adjust for the fuel injectors you have & check the MAP sensor. I believe AEM set this startup calibration with a GM 3-bar sensor. Change this to what MAP sensor you have. You will find the startup cal. in the AEM install directory as well as the AEMPro User's Guide. Make sure your car is mechanically sound, tuning can not compensate for mechanical problems.

As I had the V1 and I have been using the V2 since it was released. I can say the AEM V1 and V2 are two totally different standalone ecu. As Mello said above if it's set properly, the V1 would work great. But the V2 is much newer and better than V1. The V2 is close to the Infinity with the latest firmware rather than the V1. That's the reason why I don't go with the Infinity yet. So yes, if the OP can find a V2 with a good price, it can be a good upgrade. If the OP would set everything and tune by himself, going with the V2 or Infinity would be good. but if he wouldn't tune by himself, following what the tuner prefers would be better.
The cheapest way for the OP would be just retune the V1 since he already has it and wouldn't require to rewire anything.

Bro do you have a start up map for a 4g63t 1G? I'm new with aemm EMS 1 is there any website for users?

Support for V1 is very rare now days.

I personally know of 1 member that sold his DSM because it had AEM V1 in it and he could not find a sole to help him (well one said he would tune it for 1K). I loaned him DSMLink V3 but he sold the car before he got to put it in and have some fun.

Hahaha come on man, stay positive, AEM v1 is a good ECU, you can do everything. But you need to study

Good luck! I know Darren Thomas at DTR in Oklahoma runs a 1g on AEM V1 and he could be helpful to you. I will see if I can find a user name for him. I'm not sure if he is a member on here or not. Mostly he is on FB. DTR Transmissions.
Here he is @Darren Thomas Racing . Maybe he will see I tagged him and jump in. :thumb:

It’s a fantastic ecu, but there are several ECU’s that have came out since that blow it out of the water, hell even v2 is obsolete at this point though it’s a great ECU for those who still use it. Unfortunately many tuners won’t even work with v1 anymore as it’s so dated and is prone to burning up with replacements being difficult to find and AEM dropping support for it like 10 years ago, it’s not something they want to get into, however last I knew Darren Thomas Racinf still likes it and works with it but he’s about the only one left. It’s definitely not an ECU someone can spoon feed you on like you’ve been looking for lately, and telling someone who’s been around the block a few times who happens to be one of the moderators they “need to study” when you’re asking questions about an extremely outdated standalone isn’t going to help your case, especially when ecmlink v3 full isn’t even a standalone and more capable.

More capable them what? AEM Series 1? If so them you really don't know about, at minimum, one of these platforms.
We have a massive following of DSM’s here being in the same neighborhood as Buschur, I’m personally using ecmlink, work on cars that are on ecmlink, cars that are on link g4 that have been previously on v2 and v1 and ecmlink, we still have 2 guys still using v1, out of our couple of very capable tuners in the area that tune them every single one of them will tell you in todays world ecmlink is just as capable of v1 with what’s available today. Sure v1 MIGHT have been more capable in its hayday, but with it greatly lacking support since AEM dropped it and hardly anyone’s tuning it that drops it’s capabilities in itself but I still have yet to hear or see something significant that v1 does that ecmlink can’t. If we were talking aem v2 I’d agree even with it being obsolete itself.
