Hello
First of all, although I have researched many topics, I still cannot reach a definitive conclusion. My vehicle is 1G.

However, since I was dealing with phantom knock and I did not have money to buy DSMLink, I bought a 2G 99 model ECU. Because I thought maybe I could handle this with ceddymods. I want to write you what I have right now:
2G ECU MD359402
2G MAF
560CC Evo 8 or 450 CC injectors
AEM AFPR
255 Walbro gas pump
SAFC II
Tactrix 2.0 openport cable

I still can't find the sound in my vehicle. Most likely a piece of metal is rubbing. I checked the spark plugs of the vehicle and they were clean. Also, my AFR value while on the road is 14:7-14:8-9.

I am waiting for advice from you. I know I will get a 2G knock sensor for a 2G ECU. But do I need to do anything for the spark plug firing order or do I have to do on CAS because I will use 1G CAS? I will make a 1G to 2G adapter harness myself.

I need your help on this matter.

I’ve never heard of anyone doing this yet. I have to assume you’ll need the 2g wiring harness and also the 6bolt in a 2g adapters for it.

Hopefully someone with some experience can chime in soon.

Everybody can do it with EVO 8 ECU and I saw on youtube (2g ECU on 1G) also I hope I can do that because I spent money for that also :) you make me sad:(

Look up Evo 8 ECU in a 1g, using the 97-99 2g black box would be similar and require a similar junper harness to be made (assuming the OP has this covered).

Don’t be sad. You’re in the right place. Only question I have, is all this really much more cost effective than ecmlink? Is this because you can’t find a replacement knock sensor?

My very honest opinion, there is a reason why you have the phantom knock. Changing the ECU won't solve the phantom knock unless the ECU is the cause. Even if you had money to buy ECMLink, it wouldn't fix the phantom knock. I recommend you to find the cause of the phantom knock first and fix it. It's the only way to go. If the knock sensor itself, wiring or something else is the cause, you will just waste more money and time.

I did an Evo 8 ECU in a 1g like 15 years ago and it was a fantastic experience. You are wasting your time here. Also you need to match the knock sensor to the ECU as the response will be different and the ECU is calibrated for that.

Fixing the phantom knock is usually $0-$250. Fix the phantom knock. Don’t make this harder than it needs to be.

Sorry guys but this is old car and I am sick and tired to searching the noise each time. I need to eliminate the knock until to 4000 rpm and I guess I can do that with ceddy mods so I can use speed density with this ECU also.

ECMLink is starting from 300 dollars at least v2.5 (does not support SD) V3 is starting from 650 dollars, I bought this ECU for 50 dollars :) I am writing from Turkey and 1 dollar is 30 Turkish Liras. Please think about it, I am ready wasting my time it's okLOL

I noticed you're doing this due to phantom knock. I was recently troubleshooting pk in my 1g and changing ECUs did nothing (one ECU with ECMLink and one stock). While ECMLink made logging and troubleshooting easier, it was not what ultimately fixed it. Replacing the HLAs did, but YMMV.
Thank you, I will research about it. I never heard before because we don t have 1g Mitsubishi heads in Turkey that's why we use Sonata or Elantra heads:)

Guys I am trying to do same thing but I am not sure about after wiring? For example we did jumper harness stuff so what we are going to next? Firing order? CAS? Just plug and play?

I have 99 ECU, I think I don t need flashing port for Tactrix? Please can someone help me about 99 ECU (MD359402).

should use the firing order from year it is, Cas inversion setting may be applicable?

you should wire an obd2 port into the jumper harness, I believe it only needs 3 wires to function properly (maybe 4)

there are a lot of information but not clear I am soldering ecu today and i am waiting OBD2 port. I ordered last day..I hope you help me about my issue..By the way I attached the eprom to 91 ecu by myself I will dump phantom knock version bin file when i got my willem eprom programmer:) if it does not work out I will contiune on 2g dsm ecu. I am really wondering one thing Should I need flash port?

You will need a way to connect to the programming pin (79?).

Will you need the DLC (ALDL, ODB1) style connector to do so depends on your programming cable. If it has the mating connector then yes, if it has some other type on connector, like a 3mm phono, barrel or spade, you would need a matching connector going to the ECU programming pin.

Thanks for reply I have attached the picture pls let me know. Do I need flash port🙏🙏

I am trying to solder. I have 2 instruction about pinouts. I am confused about fuel pump relay, one of them is showing 13, other one is 56. it shows 8th pinout on the 2G

Pin 8 on the 2G ECU is the output to the relay to power the fuel pump just like pin 56 on the 1G ECU.

Pin 13 on the 1G ECU is an input from the fuel pump power to confirm that the relay did provide power when the ECU told it to.
I don't remember the 2G ECU having a matching pin. IIRC then you wouldn't use it.

thanks steve god bless youLOL so you have seen the pictures and Do i need flashing port? i mean do i have to use headphones stuff?

If you mean this picture, I can't say. I don't know what's on the left and I can't tell of the one of the right is a real Tactrix openport 2.0 adapter or some clone.

Anycase to the best of my knowledge the MD359402 requires the programming voltage on pin 79 so you'll need to provide it one way or another.

i think it s not clone by the way i don t know left one alsoLOL Seller sold me as a free:) but it looks good toolLOL i got it about 79 pin but how to provide the voltage on pin 79? Is there a information about that i don t want to waste your time thanks

I wanted to try a fantasy :) and I wanted to try the 2g black box 1999 model (MD359402) ecu over the 1G awd 1990. There is a lot of mixed information on the internet. I didn't know which pinouts to use. I plugged the converter to car and it worked in first time without problem. However, when a clicking sound comes from the MPI relay, the car dies. This period lasts approximately 3 seconds. Please help me on this. I made it to the end but I couldn't succeed. You say, this won't work, I'll quit. I guess i will collect money for ecmlink..I have socketed ecu so just ecmlink eprom will save my life? I mean plug and play or Do i have to send my socketed ecu to ECMLINK;?

hi
ı did not have money and i decided to plug 2g 1999 blacbox(FWD) ecu to m 90 awd. I did swap harness according wiring schematics car is starting but after 3 seconds I hear click sound from my MPI relay and car is dying:(( ı guess mpi cuts the fuel pump I really confused. I have tactrix cacle and there is a no DTC. Please can you tell me about ypur experience about this issue? Thnk you

Sounds like fuel pressure issue
But when i plug the 1G ecu it works very well..Something is wrong but where is it:) I hear tick sound from mpi relay then car stops..it works very well until to 3 seconds..

By the way I did not replaced 2G knock sensor..I don t think it would be problem..

How is ecu getting its crank signal?

Seems like the ecu isn’t being told the engine is rotating and is not keeping the fuel pump running after initial priming with key on power thus losing fuel pressure immediately and dying.

-Daniel
ECU always get engine rotation signal from crankshaft sensor, that's the one which tells fuel pump to start running

Knock sensor shouldn't keep car from running

I never put 2g ECU in 1g but I'm sure there is differences, schematic diagrams will help you to make sure all the pins are the same at least
