A/T temp light

I have a 91 talon tsi awd. I was driving on the highway and my a/t temp light came on. And the engine was smokin a little. Can you guys tell me what it could be and how to fix it. Thanx

give a little bit more info, how fast were you going? were you doing a bunch of WOT pulls?
Your engine should never be smoking. Sounds like you were overheating by a lot..

Do you have anything blocking your radiator and trans cooler lines?
I've had my A/T for 3 years now and the only time the light came on other than when you start the car is when my alternator went out, all my dash lights were coming on with that one though.
were you in O/D or in 3rd? What did your temp gauge say?
are both your transmission and coolant fluids full?

I was in od and my temp was reading normal. All my fluids are full. The light is off now also.

If it come back on, check your lines to make sure nothhing is blocking air from hitting them. might be a good time to drain and put a new filter in your A/T, idk how hot your trans has to get before the light comes on but overheating your fluid like that will break it down and destroy your trans

I've done like 50 wot pulls in a row with my car and I've never had my light come on.

Same here, never once has mine come on because the trans was too hot or anything. unless you peg your shit out at 7k in 2nd gear for 50 miles, low fluid, blocked air flow to cooler, idk what would really cause it

Yeah I would say that he should flush out all his lines and put in some fresh fluid and a filter if this problem continues.

Definately, my trans temp light has NEVER come on. And i've done many pulls in a row while on the high stall converter.

I've had my dsm for over 4 years and have never seen that light on while driving..You gotta be low of fluid or theres sum crap in your lines..

Replace it....Not kidding, replace it..along with the filter..Shouldn't cost much over 50 bux..
