i was browsing the good 'ol craigslist as i do everday, and came across this GST.

he states that its the "stock 99 7 bolt(the year they fixed the whole crankwalk issue)"

^^is this true?! i never heard of this before...
not trying to knock the dude's ad(he could be on here)
it actually looks like a clean DSM for a good price.
heres the link for reference

Any car can crankwalk.

There was a revision made in 1998 that reduced crankwalk occurences. That's probably what he is talking about. I am going to send him beligerent e-mails for being a turd now.

Michael is correct; any motor with a crank can walk, it's thrust bearing failure. The 98/99 7 bolts have a revised thrust bearing design that is different than the 95+. There are just fewer written cases of it happening.

Thanks guys i know any car can walk i just didn't know they made revisions! good to know..
kudos to Spawned for clarifying and being an a-hole to the turd :]

Have to consider that more cars were produced in 95 and 96 than any other year. They most likely have more mileage than later cars, and im sure a lot of reported crankwalk cases were mis-diagnosed

jusmx you funny guy. LOL

It's when you spin a rod bearing, have a problem with the clutch hydraulics, or run out of gas.
Ah, gotcha. In the past I was told it was somehow related to improper spark plug gap or running 87 octane gasoline.

I saw it on mythbusters once... It's a myth.
Was that the same episode that Kari, Grant, and Tory proved that JDM Evo III 7-bolts are the same exact engine internally as USDM 7-bolts? I fell asleep and missed the end.

My 99 gsx crankwalked with 281 miles on it being totally rebuilt.....And there was no errors in the rebuild....everything was set and match to factory per se'....

I had a 91 engine that rodwalked. And the worse part was that it left me, the car, and everything else behind. Betcha there are more cases of rodwalk then are reported.

Similar thing happened to dacowgod following the rebuild of his 2.0 6-bolt a few years ago.....so I guess 6-bolts aren't immune, either.

It's always the thrust bearing I think... push in clutch, no oil priming it, start car, oil soon comes along. That's why some guys disable the clutch for starting their car. Doing this lets the engine run circulating oil before you ever touch the clutch followed by thrust bearing movement. So if you rebuild an engine and no one else drives your car... just disable the freaking clutch on start.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I don't think this is the end all save all resolution to crankwalk... Yes, it may relieve some stress off the thrust bearing, but I don't think this will make it "immune" to crankwalk. There really is no way to eliminate crankwalk. However, most people that experience crankwalk have aftermarket clutches. So if you want to keep from crankwalking, stick with the stock clutch LOL... Then again, good luck launching

Yeah, must have been the same episode ROFL

BTW: I own a fully crankwalked 97 GSX...

I never said it was an end all save all. It was just a useful piece of information that I don't think was mentioned.

Happened to my 90 Toyota Supra!
