What is the best quality replacement alternator available in the current market?

I bought a "white box" replacement from RTM Racing recently. I needed to replace my old one as the interior lights were flickering with the old alternator. This one has been good so far but I also haven't exactly put a lot of mileage on it yet.

After doing a lot of research I bought this from RockAuto.com 90A Mitsubishi Alternator & so far all's good. BBB Industries is the new electronics division of Remy. Remy used to be AC Delco's reman. sub before GM had to sell them off.

A good Galant 90Amp will be good as a direct replacement. Just get a good brand and should last you a long time

Is the current one OEM? If it is salvageable (new brushes) then that is a great option. You can work with a local motor repair shop that specializes in such things or ship it out to someone who you trust to do the work.

The best usually is like Dan suggests, get yours fixed by a local shop and don't let them swap out the regulator unless it's toast. The aftermarket for those tends to be low quality.

I work at a major auto parts seller.

The aftermarket ones are garbage. We are talking at best early 2000's remanufacturing and a part thats sit on a shelf for another 15 years. This is regardless of napa, oreilly, autozone etc.

I went through 3 different remanufactured ones, the first was dead on install, second barely made 12.5 volts, third had stripped mounting holes in jad to retap.

If you get a rebuilt one make sure it has a good warranty, that your oreillys or autozone will be understanding when you need a new one

Yes I have always found rebuilt alts at major auto stores are 90% of the time junk. And even though they often have a free replacement policy what good is that when you have to keep replacing it yourself over and over? Most major cities do have a alternator and starter rebuilder. Check old school and look thu the yellow pages or Google for your area.
