I did a search and really didn't find what i was looking for. The drain plug fell out on my 5 speed, good thing for my brother in laws AAA, so i dropped out the trany and out the drain plug i found shards of the bearing casing. Now i , unfortunately, am unemployed but getting training to get a good job as a machinist so i don't have the money to pay anyone to build it fr me. I do know for a fact that i need bearings.

How do i get the trany to come apart? I took the big bolts out, i'm just going to call the bellhousing. I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong or what else i have to pull apart. Does anyone have a diagram or knows how to get it apart so i can replace the bearing without finishing off whats left of my trany.

Thanx guys

If it is a FWD it is much different than the 5 speed. You need to remove the endcover. Remove the roll pin for 5th gear and engage 5th gear. Now shift the trans into 3rd or 4th. It should now be locked. Unstake the nuts on the input and intermediate shafts. You can now remove them. The one gear rides on a needle bearing assembly and will come right off. The other will need to be warmed up with a propane torch. At this point you can unbolt the two halves of the trans and pull it apart as much as possible and keep it apart with wooden blocks, about half an inch or so. Keep warming up the gear that is pressed onto the splines. It takes 5-10 mins. When you are ready take a sand filled dead blow SOFT hammer and smack the shaft, the gear should start to budge.

When you get the gear off the case will come apart. At this point you will be in so over your head and either send it off to a trans shop or start shopping for a new trans.

Dude... FWD is a 5 speed... Or did you mean the FWD is much different than the AWD?

Anyways the FWD is much more simpler than the AWD in the fact that it won't have a center diff and the viscous coupler to contend with. I would suggest looking at Dre's rebuild before you touch anything... Although it's an AWD build, it will give you the ideas on how to go about repairing it.

Here you go: Dre

Here's one for a FWD transmission. Quaife Limited Slip Differential VFAQ This is what I used to get my transmission apart and get my quaife installed. I strongly recommend you buy the factory service manual in case you don't already have it. It goes through the entire transmission overhaul.

Note: make sure you remove the bolt for the reverse gear selector. I forgot it and it took me an extra half hour trying to get the middle case separated from the bottom one. (very frustrating) Its located on the middle case near the differential.

Thanx so much guys....the links give great description of everything. I really appreciate it!!!....now to see for when i get this done....i'll let u guys kno how bad it is and maybe put up a pick or two...LOL

just for sh!ts and giggles here's what happened to my last trany...not the one i'm trying to fix now.

the one on the left is a shot of the bellhousing where the clutch sits. The one on the right is the general area around the drainplug.
