3rd Button for RearDefrost/Hazard? [Mystery Button]

I can't believe how many people said the same dang thing even though it was pointed out each time that it was wrong.

i.e. how many people said that the 3rd button is for spyder drop-top....no it's not....but then another person says the same thing....and another.......and they keep saying it...why?

I also can't believe that I read the whole thread. :D gotta love wasting time

This is funny because I always thought that that space was specifically there for the alarm LED...I guess not. Mine looks real good there though, if you looked at it you wouldn't think that a button was suppose to be there. Since no one knows what button is suppose to be there then I say we all say the alarm LED fits the best there.

why not just get another button (hazard) and use it for a 2 stage boost controller?

or for those with front plates..a front plate switch down button to avoid foto radar?

a starter switch??

wire it so your sunroof and windows all open or close with one button! !!!

hey, i was skimming through 1000 answered Q's and found this tidbit of information. Is this post talking about the same button this thread is? Or something else?

Why is there a button to pop up the headlights on my [DSM]?
Why is there a blank spot in my dashboard for an extra switch?
There's a switch missing in my [DSM]! What is it supposed to be?
What kind of switch can I install in the "missing" switch spot of my [DSM]?
How can I keep my pop-up headlights from raising when turned on?

1990-1991 DSMs had pop-up headlights. The popup button raised the lights even if they were off. Since 1992-1994 DSMs did not have pop-up headlights, this switch is not installed. There is a "blank" where the switch would have gone. The installation of such "blanks" is commonplace in automotive design. If desired, a pop-up switch, fog light switch or other stock DSM switch can easily be installed into the "blank" spot to control auxiliary lighting or other special equipment.

It is true that the pop-up switch is slightly redundant on 1990-1991 cars since the headlights pop-up automatically when switched on. It is possible to prevent them from doing so. Owners sometimes want to do this to allow them to look "cooler" when using the headlights as daylight running lights. Others prefer to run the headlights down and use the high beams to make up for the lost light. [Note: The writer of this FAQ does not recommend operating the headlights down at night.]

the power mirror switches? the black pack of switches that contain the cruise, and fog light switches? that one doesn't have power mirrors therefore they didn't include the switch. your post didn't make so much sense.

Sorry if it doesnt make sense. Both my RS and GS never came with power mirrors, but my rs has the unused 'slot' or panel where it was supposed to be, just never knew what it was for. But im still wondering what the bottom button is for under the HAZARDS and REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER in the center vent panel.

Right side, bottom hole. Passenger ejection seat button. Standard on convertibles. Also known as, get the f#*% out, bi#^%! button. :D

It's for the power mirrors. The large square button is the directional button, and the little slider switch under it is to select which mirror.

The one on the right....Rear wiper? im guessing. LOL, my project gst hardtop had a rear wiper...i think?...i toook it off and, ive never driven the car so not sure if there is s buttom on the dash

He means the one on the Left. under the HAZARD and REAR DEFROSTER. I dont believe it was ever used for anything, as far as i know. Ive always wondered too

errr post a pic of what exactly your talking about? I mean most of us who have posted here own 2g DSMs, at least one of us should be able to figure it out haha

He means the third "slot" down in the vertical row to the left of the center AC vents. That switch position is not filled on any US or Canadian model I have ever seen. It is always a blank insert from the factory (usually filled later with an alarm LED or some other aftermarket feature).

My best guess was mentioned already by someone else. In the European market cars are required to have a bright red rear fog light that is turned on manually. It would make sense for the switch to be near the hazard switch as it is a convenient place to wire such a circuit into the harness that goes to the rear lights. Maybe someone over in EU can fill us in if they are reading this.

Maybe there is a button located there in the Avengers that share many parts with the Eclipse? It could just be a feature that was deleted late in production to save money but who knows? Did you know the dash light dimming knob to the left of the steering column was designed to be illuminated at night but never has the wiring or light pipe installed to complete the feature?

Possibly retractable roof on a spyder.

this is what i thought it was too but i did some spyder interior research in our gallery here and look what i found. ITS BLANK! the spyders use the rear wiper switch the hard tops have as the drop top control. now im gonna be rearching this until i found out what the hell option you needed to have a switch there? :ohdamn:

Good luck, Ive been trying to figure this out for a while now. Maybe its just a mitsubishi mystery. From looking at the MMA catalog it was never used, so either it is from the EDM or it was a feature that was removed
