3rd Button for RearDefrost/Hazard? [Mystery Button]

The Great Mystery Switch.

I've heard -but haven't confirmed- that the Avenger or Cirrus or whatever else it is that uses that dash had a switch for seat heaters there.

It's not for the Spyder top -that goes in place of the coupe's rear wiper switch.

It's common to use another Hazard switch there, but you have to do a bit of fiddling to the switch holder behind the trim: the bottom corner's truncated and won't let the hazard slide right in. The defroster switch is too tall.

It was never used by DSM in the T/E/L.

Does anyone know if a company makes a generic button that can be used under the Rear Defrost and Hazard buttons on a 2g?

Heres a pic of what Im talking about, if It wasnt clear.

I think the 3rd button is for the Spyder eclipses. Used to take the top up/down. Im not 100% but i think thats where the button for that goes. and i dont believe that any company makes a generic button for that. im actually thinkin about taking mine out and cutting the hole out to fit in a push button starter,.

Yeah, I figured thats what it was for.

I just need a ON/OFF button.... anyone know if I can get an addtional rear defrost button and just hook it up for what I need? Or is there other electrical crap in there (maybe a thermostat or something), like the hazard button swich?

no, the button for the top on spyder eclipses. the button for spyder eclipses is where the hardtop back window wiper button is...only makes sense. I believe people usually get a new hazard switch and just flip it upside down.

It's never been used. It may have been for a heated seat button on the Avenger, but was never implemented.

It's not for the top.

ya thats the button for the convertible top

Uh, no, it's not. But thank you for your wrong answer.

Get a defrost button or hazard button and sand off the emblem...or paint ove rit with model paint. Thats what i'm doing for my Fog Lights. I got a hazard siwtch....sanded it down and painted it flat black with some model paint...then clear coated...Gives it a nice look!!

I don't have a 2G, so I couldn't tell you for sure whether or not this is possible, but couldn't you possibly find another 2G in a junkyard or someone parting out their car and remove the buttons? You would also want the switch assembly behind them. After that you should be able to tear apart your dash and fit the OEM button and switch behind there, giving you a fully stock appearance? (You would obviously have to re-paint the button, but in theory that should work if you're completely set on making it look like stock.)

I may have missed the point to this (good overall idea BTW), but why go to all that trouble to setup the fog lights. Many of our cars came with fog lights (the power mirrors/fog light panel to the left of the column). It seems like it would be more worth your time to just find the factory fog light switch and put it in your dash. Now if you have two sets of fog lights or something that's a totally different story.

I was thinking the same thing.

What I might end up doing is getting an extra button to put in there and use it for the overdrive button since I have an auto( )

i got another stock hazard one and did it up like a honda s2000... car wont start unless the button is pushed

Because my car didn't come with fog lights...So i have no switch for them...and i couldn't find a facotry fog light switch just a hazrd one..so i figured i'd fill up the one hole left instead of starting on the other side. Bc i bought factory fogs...so i want a factory switch.(sorta)

thats a great idea. I may borrow that one when I want to run a kill switch to my fuel pump.

That button isnt used on 2g's but is used in the basterd cousin the Avenger. The Avengers use the same dash, that button is the "Traction Controle" button.
I'd love to see a picture if you can get one. Nothing's listed in the parts catalog that I can find.

I've also heard it's for heated seats, but again, no joy.

i got an extra defroster button from a junker talon. I'm sure i'll find some type of use for it, i've heard of a few people who have used extra switches to create a brake-light kill button. Basically, its for highway use, if youre speeding and you pass a police car running radar, you can slow down to a reasonable speed without them seeing your illuminated brake lights. According to a few people it works great. Now i'm not saying that i speed, or that i ever do, or that you should, or that you should modify your car so that its easy to speed and/or get away with it.. ;)

nope, your wrong. there is no traction control button in avengers and they don't use that space for anything either

ive just looked at about 40 dash pics from avengers, and ive come to the conclusion that they dont use the third button either

Prolly made it so idiots like us would go thur all that hassle to make a button switch for it.

It lives on the left, grasshopper. There's a couple on eBay now.
