Hello everyone! I just purchased my 1996 Eclipse GST a few months ago, had some issues with a few different things. Most recent was car was smoking and running very uneasy, so I decided to pull the engine. I am going to do a full engine rebuild-ish, I bought new wisco heads, still looking at the rods I want, if there’s anything anyone thinks I should buy and upgrade I would love help! Trying to push more power but not an insane amount seeing how I want this to be more of a daily but not quite. Thank you guys!

It can’t be the CAS if it’s going out sort of ? Half and then none? I just think it’s weird this has happened twice. Last time as soon as I replaced the spark plug wires the car fired right up.

So I found out the ICM was sort of on, so I unplugged and fully plugged it in. It runs now, but it sounds… off. It’s not deep and does not have a deep growl like it did yesterday, im stumped as to why it would change all due to that, but it’s running. My turbos still making noise and sounding normal, but the power is just NOT there. I mean I’ve lost quite a bit of power it feels like. I’m trying to find something out of the ordinary but I can’t, it runs good and idles fine.

Is this the upgraded turbo? If it is, and you're running it hard or getting into boost without a tune, check your spark plugs. They could be fouled from too much fuel. And that can happen somewhat quickly. It would be kind of a coincidence that it would happen to 2 and 3 at the same time though. How does your engine harness wiring around the coils look? How do the plugs look?

Yes it is an upgraded turbo. From the T25 to the I think 16 G small turbo. I will check plugs, that would make sense to be fouled. How and where do I get this car tuned? I know it’s not possible to do myself, but do I have too upgrade anything with it?

Do not drive it around without a tune. You NEED a tune if you want your car to last. Get a DSMLink ECU first and foremost. Then find a shop that either specializes in DSMs locally. Or get a remote tune. For DSMLink, you need a 1995 EPROM ECU to send out and get yours chipped for tuning, then find a shop to tune it.

Ok, I will purchase a new ECU but, I cannot get a 1995. I’m using a 97 harness for the cam sensor, I bought a new 97 ECU, without it my car wouldn’t start. Without a tune, that would absolutely explain my terrible gas mileage. 😭 I hadn’t really know I had to get a tune. More or less expensive to send in my own ECU? Is it just better to buy a new one?

Why would there be too much fuel because the turbo is upgraded?

You'll need a 95 EPROM for DSMLink. The ECU harness should be the same throughout all the 2Gs. Not all ECUs have the slot for the chip that ECMTuning puts in. It's usually only the 95 and some 96s that have it. I'm currently running a 95 EPROM ECU in my 98 and it runs fine.

Things you should look for:
An ECU with DSMLink already installed ~$700 on the forums or facebook
A 95 EPROM ECU ~$150-$200 on the forums, plus sending in your ECU to ECMTuning ~$545 plus shipping.
Once you get it, someone on here can help you set it up.

Perfect, I’ll look into that today. Thank you.

???
Small 16? I thought you were reinstalling your T25 until you get all the issues hammered out and have it running right, no?

You can also have it remote tuned as long as you have Link
