Hello everyone! I just purchased my 1996 Eclipse GST a few months ago, had some issues with a few different things. Most recent was car was smoking and running very uneasy, so I decided to pull the engine. I am going to do a full engine rebuild-ish, I bought new wisco heads, still looking at the rods I want, if there’s anything anyone thinks I should buy and upgrade I would love help! Trying to push more power but not an insane amount seeing how I want this to be more of a daily but not quite. Thank you guys!

I finally got the transmission off, and man did it freaking suck. But, I don’t think that the flywheel was even the problem to begin with. ☹️ I think it was the crank like I thought all along. I can still move the flywheel side to side, and it doesn’t even feel loose on the flywheel. After all of that work, it’s not even the problem. 😐 I think my car either has crank walk, or the early stages of it.

Remove the clutch you must - check the flywheel bolts you should. If your flywheel bolts are tight - then WTF happened to that crank?

Holy cow… this is scary. You were correct in removing the clutch, but look at this…. All 7!!! Of these bolts backed out!!! They were all at almost 100 foot pounds, I am going to buy some red lock tight, and thank the Lord, it didn’t come off. Oh my gosh. I looked at my clutch and pressure plate, they look good. No scoring or anything. But man, I cannot believe this right now. I am so thankful for you guys, and for me stopping the car.

Blue will do on my opinion. Ive never used red in 40 years on anything. Ive never bought it.

I’ll use blue then, what else should I put it on? I have not put it on anything. No one really said to use it. So I have my oil pan off, and transmission out, where do I use it?

Wow, that is bad. Is there supposed to be a bushing/dowel that goes in the hole in the flywheel? I would be inspecting the flywheel and at least put new bolts in there

See.. there ya go... The universe provides you with a bad situation to make you feel better that your efforts weren't wasted. 😌

I kid, I kid... but seriously tho... 😳
It’s true tho, I am very happy I don’t have to take off the oil pump, and everything else connected to the crank. LOL

Brand new stock bolts will hold fine.
In my opinion, I would use Orange Locktite Gel. It holds like red, but you can break it loose without heat.
I am SOOO GLAD you didn't drive the car more, good diligence on your part. Hell maybe saved your life! 🙏
Your issue is why you run a "Scattershield" when drag racing. They are built to "contain" a clutch explosion or flywheel mishap. :thumb:

Hey, also check your flywheel to make sure the 7 holes are still round, not oblong. Put a bolt in and see if it has any slop. No since using a bad flywheel if it has a problem that has been overlooked.

I will check it all. I had the flywheel resurface when I rebuilt the motor since there were a lot of tiny cracks. But I will check it all again since it had this problem.

I am concerned that the banging back and forth on the bolt shafts, may have done harm to the threads in the crank. +20 on new bolts, and check the fit with the new hardware. No wiggle allowed.

It ruined the threads, look at this. I think I have to tap it out, I mean they’re bad, check out the bolts, i could use them if i wanted too!!!

Rhut rho - I have not fixed this particular issue on a crank myself - we seek a higher power...
