That could make it cheaper maybe, each hole would need to be tapped. Pretty sure that means a tooling change on cnc. Is there even going to be enough meat to tap into? Welding might work but warping may be a problem and even cheap TIG guys charge around 60 an hour.

If you could get these down to 100 a set and make money I would be surprised. That is what my gut tell me anyway.

There is a used set of the handles for sale on link right now for 100 if some one wants a set.

YEAH I WAS TEMPTED TO BUY THAT SET LOL

If you machine a socket for each arm to slip into then either weld or bolt/nut through that could work i have a guy that could weld them pretty cheap laser cutting the arms and handle would be pretty cheap as well, the machining the handle is where its expensive but i have a guy that im sure could do it pretty reasonably priced but even then $100 a set wont be easy and even at the price not many people would be willing to spend that and it would have to be at least 30-50 sets for anyone to take the job

This is what I'm getting at. I just don't see this going anywhere. I could be wrong but I highly doubt it.

That would work to keep the doors opening but not anything to keep the plastic handle from breaking. Theres that stupid spring too and what it does is keep the handle in place and retracted. It only needs to be a hair strong enough to return the handle back into place in other words. And the reason the tab got bent was that damn spring, its way too strong for its purpose. If you notice the latch rod, its no where near enough resistance to fatige that metal tab.

This is probably the biggest cause for broken plastic handles because once that tab gets bent upwards, people yank on the handle until the latch barely engages and opens. If that was 100% the next problem would be people swinging the weight of the door using the handle.
And then the average age and weather on plastic.

So after much deliberation with my pops not looking like it going to happen. Sorry to get hopes up. The cost would be greater than even I'm willing to pay. In my excitement though I ordered door handles so I'm going to tinker around since I just bought them for r+d not cause I need them right now. I'm going to tear them apart and see what I can come up with. If its anything useful ill let you guys know

hmmmm.... Aluminum door handles wood be nice... They would work so well with silver Eclipses, maybe black eclipses...

Another reason the handles break are because people pull them to fast and let go.... or pull them up to quickly and the little spring just * cracks * then boom broken...

Also about the spring that helps open the door, another part that can contribute to that would be the door lock mechanism.... Make sure yours isn't broken or bent...

If the spring cracked (don't see that happening) the door would still work fine. The spring doesn't help open the door at all, it just keeps the handle in place after you let it go.

This sparks my interest, My 98 GSX handles feel WAY beefier than my 96 handles..... I think I might pop one out tomorrow and see whats going on. It never crossed my mind until I read this, and their is no doubt a BIG difference between the two.

It makes it 100x easier to pull those three Torx screws holding the latch, that way the rod moves down and you can get the handle out. I'd be interested in what you find bewteen the two

I was talking about the lock mechanism.
If you pull your handle and it feels lose chances are your mechanism isn't working properly.

So this thread is pretty old, does anyone know if someone recreated the aluminum exterior handles for the 2g yet?

I know this is a very old thread but if anybody knows where the mold for the aluminum handle is I am willing to buy it to make more, I work at a foundry. If someone knows please let me know.

do you require iron molds? if not sand based or clay molds are not terribly difficult to recreate from a used part, and are sufficient for cast aluminum.

Never seen cast handles myself but I did see a few years ago a guy selling steel reinforcement plates cut (presumably) on a waterjet. To install, you sliced each of the door handle pivot arms down the middle with a bandsaw or hacksaw and epoxied the plate in the middle. This might be an easier option to make if the mold isn't available.

I made my own sets with a nibbling tool 5 years ago and never broken another handle since.

How long ago did you order them? Last year could have been a month ago LOL. The website seems kinda sketchy. If you ever actually get them let me know. I would like to order a set

The owner is active on the company's Facebook page. You can more updates there in regard to handles and manifolds. From what it appears, the handles are a work in progress as @ec17pse mentioned. It seems like a one-man show.

I ordered them once they went on sale, which i believe was in oct/nov time, i do wish it was more ready before the sales went ahead but i guess its a deposit basically to get the mould made, he has replied via facebook when i do ask so is helpful and nice about it too. Should be good.

Last thing I heard was that he's no longer making these handles. He's begun to refund people his money according to some buyers
