2G Door handles

I just installed new door handle because the last one broke off and now the door won't open from the outside, it used to open when I first put it on but I had to pull it all the way up very hard, any ideas how to fix this?

Yeah. If you take the door panel off and peek back into the door where you hooked the metal rod up to the new door handle, follow that rod down to the latch system. If you notice when you pull up on the rod, the rod comes up leaving an empty space underneath it. Get a small bolt and nut, or plastic clip that clips into that spot to "space" it up more. You don't need a lot, just measure how much you can lift it up before you meet resistance, and that's how far you need to space it.


I've had to do this on every Dorman, Amazon, Ebay, or any aftermarket 2G door handle I've ever put on a 2G DSM. Be aware, the metal tab on the door handle itself that the rod "snaps" into, will bend over time unless it's an OEM handle or an older Dorman HELP! handle. Both of those have way thicker metal tabs.

Make sure you re-clipped the plastic clip on the rod so the rod doesn't fall off the handle.
