I fount out today my front pass lower ball joint looks as if it is going to fall out. I went on to a website that shows you all th recalls for several cars. It said the mistu cars are covered under the warrenty but it says nothing about the talons? thy want 450 dollars CND for this part. The thing i dont understand is, why would it be coverd for eclipse and not talons? this is the same part in the car is it not? please someone help me out OMG

$450 canadian for a ball joint?? are you trying to replace the whole control arm or something? i had to replace both my lower ball joints, and contrary to what the Chilton's manual said, you can replace the ball joints without replacing the whoel control arm. i paid around $150 for both of them at NAPA.

autozone has them even cheaper...........also i think the recall is for 2g dsm's only.......(i think)....... :dsm:

I took my 95 eclipse into the dealership during the spring to have the ball joints looked at for the safety recall. I know that I read on here that if there is over a certain amount of play in the ball joint that they need to be replaced, and if not enough play, they at least need to be reset and repacked, or something of the sort. Well, when I took it in they only reset and repacked it. All was fine until I took my car in for transmission work. When I went and picked up my car my mechanic told me that one of those needed to be replaced, because it had about 1 inch of play. It's been about a month since my mechanic told me that, and now my car is starting to "squeak" when I turn. It only squeaks when my wheels are pointed forward, and I barely turn to the left or the right. Anyhow, I took it back to my mechanic today and he said that the bad ball joint is probably the culprit. So my question; Is the dealership still required to replace this ball joint free of charge? Or since it was recently inspected, am I stuck with the charge? Please let me know, thanks.

"Defect: On certain passenger vehicles, the rubber boots on the lower lateral arm ball joint can become damaged, allowing dirt and water intrusion, which can cause excessive wear of the ball joint. The ball joint could then separate.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect the ball joint boots and, if cut or damaged, the lower lateral arm will be replaced. Owner notification was expected to begin during May 1999. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Mitsubishi at 1-800-222-0037. "

Well its exactly that, they told me its has already been done in 98 or something like that, but i was under the impression that they have to perform this recall as many times as the car needs it.

Can someone link me to some paperwork that i can present them about this please! im sick of half ass dealerships

yea in that post you just linked me too it says bring the recall form with you to the dealership. Im still looking for where this form can be found so i can print it out. More specifically where it states that it must be done MULTIPLE times if necessary.

call the 800 number and ask for a copy of the recall notice and let them know that the dealership is not honoring a nation wide SAFTEY recall.

not to hijack at all, but is this a NEW recall? I noticed the date on the linked thread was from last month.

I took mine in about 6 months ago and they said it was already performed. Does this mean there is a NEW recall out? Should I attempt to have them replace it again? (They are the ones that told me it was bad to begin with)

If the recall part is an upgraded part they are not required to reperform the recall. Like with the tcase recall its the same time they are required to fix it as many times as necissary. I work at a chrysler dealer I will have to pull the recall and see if the part was indeed changed and upgraded. If they upgraded the part to fix the condition then the recall does not have to be performed. If they just replaced it with another of the same part it would have to be performed again if it failed.

ok so to update you guys i did talk to a rep at the chyrsler recall center and after explaining for her my car and vin and telling her that i have been under the car and it needs it again she told me that any dealership HAS to atleast check your ball joiunts if you suspect they are going again. Then they must take the necessary steps to correct it.

With this info i called back up my local chysler service counter and told them that i needed this recall performed AGAIN. and after he insisted that its been done once i talked to the floor manager who i explained to that ive been under my car and the joints are leaking grease (the original reason they get replaced) and they need it again. So they accepted it and shedualed me for monday. ill let you know what they do, cause they are definatly losing greese bad so if they dont 'notice' it weve got a problem.

All dealers MUST perform safty recalls multiple times if necessary, this is definatly one of them.

If your 2g fits this description http://cloud.prohosting.com/davenger/recalls.html i would check this out too.
hope this helps someone else out there

but the linked page says:
"Note: The 1995 and 1996 model year vehicles listed above were involved in a previous recall for the same issue. To properly correct the condition, these vehicles MUST also have this recall performed."

Our copy of the recall doesn't list a part upgrade that I can see, so it should be redone if it is failing again. All safty recalls are that way no matter what the dealer tells you. We have done tcase replacements as many as 3 times on the same vehicle to fix that problem befor.

Alright, I will try a different dealership this weekend and see what I can do.

Any thoughts about what I should tell them when they say it has already been replaced? I mean, can I saw it is against the law to not perform it multiple times... or do i call someone higher up, or some agency? I want to be able to counter the guys argument.

I really don't like it when people screw around with my safety like this.

so the ball joint recall was done before i got the car about a year ago now they are gone again anyone whos had it knows that horrid noise... i went to dodge they said once a recall has been proformed they cant do it again the mechanic i know at the mitsubishi by my house brian says that mistsu if it was one they would have replaced it buts since its a talon they cant for free... what should i do now call up and complain to the jeep-eagle headquarters?

I have a 95 fwd tsi and i looked around the site and found a site that gives recalls i came up with something like this...

Bulletins for 1995 Eagle Talon FWD L4-1997cc 2.0L DOHC Turbo

Safety Recalls
TSB Number Issue Date TSB Title 827 JUL 99 Recall - Lower Lateral Arm Ball Joint Boots
99V066003 APR 99 Recall 99V066003: Lower Ball Joint Separation
712 APR 97 Recall - Passenger Air Bag Safety
628 OCT 94 Recall - ABS Hydraulic Unit Reinforcement

There are some recalls on it my question is that I have coilovers and tokico struts can i still have these recalls done?
