Does anyone know how to remove the dust book from the front straight control arm on the passenger side of a 2g? I got a part from advance already, however the nut appears to be thinner in diameter.... I don't know if it was just appearance or if it actually matters though.

Here is a picture of the control arm with the old boot, and the new boot I have.

I don't know what to do with that snap ring that came in the package either.

I believe those are the type that must be pressed out and pressed in. Check your sercive manual.

i have a haynes manual, it doesn't say how to do it. the manual I have covers the 95-2000 eclipse, and it said something about using a socket to replace the dust boot on that 2000 model, that's all.

hmmm i thought you had to replace the whole arm? hmm... didnt think they were serviceable but if it is definatly goin to have to be pressed like mentioned be for

they haynes manual said that it can't be serviced, but meanwhile advance auto pulled the part number up in their computer, and sold me that unit pictured. I'll have to talk to a machine shop or something.

if anyone else knows for sure, i'd appreciate it. i mean, why would advance sell a part for something that couldn't be done?

Well, the manual I have says two different things.

I personally would return that part and just replace the whole arm. It's not hard (just two bolts) and won't take long to do. This way you're sure it's all new as the ball joint is a very important piece.

If the stealership gives you any shit, keep the cover and find a shop with a press to press it in for a few bucks. Not that hard. I knew they had to be pressed out and in. :thumb:

I got the part from the screw-you-ship. it was $45, not 30... :(

You'd think that those would be super cheap since they need to be replaced everytime you replace your oil so your wheel doesn't fall off

The snap ring fits around the balljoint after its pressed in to keep it from falling out...... Also the complete lower lateral arm is like $80 from the zone and comes with a lifetime warranty, so does the lower control arm, but its like $125.

Part Numbers:

FA4077 - Driver Lower Lateral Arm
CA37752L - Driver Lower Control Arm
FA4078 - Passenger Lower Lateral Arm
CA37752R - Passenger Lower Control Arm

You can also get the complete upper control arm or just the upper balljoint, but just make sure you LINE THE DOTS UP on the balljoint/control arm because they only move in one direction.
