Any more input on this recall as far as this being a recall that can be done over and over again. I'm waiting on a call back from a case manager at mitsubishi to call me back on this recall. Even at mitsubishi corperate office they said "once the recall is done, it's considered complete and they don't have to do it again." I guess I'll just wait for a call from the case manager.

I ended up doing the transfer case seal myself since my local dealership didn't even think twice about rejecting me for that recall. They said it was done a long time ago and from the time it's done you have 12 month's or 12,000 miles ago.

Someone help me please.

I got the same "once it's been done, it's DONE" reply from my local mitsu dealer as well. I've been through 3 sets of lower control arms ( not counting the ones on the car when i bought it) SO they must not have improved the design very much if ANY! Anytime i hear a squeek, clunk or thud from the front end, that's the first thing i start checking. Someimtes they are really hard to test untill you unhook the strut and unhook it from the subframe. I couldn't' get any "play" to measure out on my most recent one ( a month or so ago) but it would squeek and then stop when you put some oil down in it, so i know it was bad. Once i had it undone from the subframe and strut, you could shake it up and down and see the insane amount of play with your bare eye.

Ok, from what I have heard around the forum there is or was a recall on the 2g lower ball joints. Are all models, 95-99 eligible to get the new ones from a dealer for free or what? I need to know what exactly is going on because one of my ball joints on my GS has a ripped boot. Thanks guys

I was also hopping someone would answer this question, because I think my ball joint may be bad on my 95Gst. So, does anyone know if there is a time limit, or can I just go get them to do it. Thanks for the help.

Call your local dealer and give them your VIN number, then go from there.. I have an appointment with the dealer in a week from yesterday.. No, there is no time limit on the recall. Also, the dealer should do the recall for you since they dont charge you for it they charge Mitsubishi which is beneficial to them because they can charge whatever they want. One thing to keep in mind.. make sure you tell them you KNOW there was a recall.. the guy I talked to seemed like I was bullshitting when I told him there was a recall.. so he looked it up with my VIN and Voila.. change of attitude. Hope this helps

I wonder if they will punt on my recall fixes because I have a coil-over suspension...?

I bought my 96 Talon TSI used with 30K on it from a dealer. I of course not being the original owner do not get anything in the mail about recalls. So my question is in my situation can I still take it in and have recalls fixed? Also the car is not quite paid off yet so I don't have real proof of ownership, does this matter? Do I take it to Mitsubishi or Dodge? I have heard on these threads you can take it to either but some of the recalls say dodge and some say mitsubishi. Anyone have a 96 Talon TSI they have had recalls done on? What did they do? I hate letting other people work on my car:cry:

I am under the impression that recalls must be fixed. I think that recalls are on items that are dangerous to public safety and must be fixed, regardless of warranty. TSBs are on less dangerous, but still unsafe items, and I think they're free too, no matter what. I got new control arms, and I'm nowhere near the original owner.

what did you do to get the controll arms? Call? Go in? Which dealer? Did you have to show proof of ownership or is it just one of those things they have to do no matter what? Also worried about them saying no because of mods...but can't hurt to try

Yes, recalls are attached to vin numbers, if it falls in a range that needs to be done, it is taken care of and noted with the vin# so it's not done again.

Recalls aren't attached to warranty work I believe, so mods shouldn't be an issue. With the ball joint recall, Mitsu/Chrysler has to fix it because the design was faulty and could result in a disintegrated front suspension at speed, which is obviously unsafe for the driver and any other innocents on the highway. It isn't like voiding a suspension warranty for having aftermarket equipment.

Recently, I developed a creaking/squeaking noise when I turn the steering wheel and go over bumps. At first I thought it was strut because my set up involves a lowering spring and stock strut..but, anyway I found out that my rubber boots on my ball joints are ripped.

Temporarily, I sprayed some WD-40 inside of the joint and put some silicone around it to keep it sealed. :|

I searched some more and saw that a recall has been issued. :beatentodeath: Anyway, I am planning on going to see the dealership to get it inspected. But, due to my "tampering" with it, I can see a reason for them to refuse the service to me.

Do you guys think it is fine to what I did to it and get the recall service done or should I pull the silicone off?

From what I've read in those extensive Lower ball Joint threads, the dealerships would find anything to use for an excuse to not get my recall service done.

it shouldn't matter what you have done to the part although I would pull the silcone off because the part is on a national recall, I had mine done on my 97GSX that I had and didnt get any crap at all about mine they just did what they were supposed to do and replaced them without any questions, its not a choice that they have because it is mandated my federal law to replace parts that can cause serious bodily injury to self and others. hope this helps

this is correct, they do check by VIN to see if the parts have been already taken care of in the recall and you shouldn't have to worry about your mods because of an act passed by congress Magnuson Moss Act so just call your local mitsu dealer and have them check for Recalls and TSB'S on your ride to get replaced hope all works out for ya:thumb:

To answer your question, you will have to go to a Chrysler/Dodge dealership in order for them to run your VIN since you are an Eagle. Mitsubishi dealers won't deal with you even though it's the same shit.

I didn't have any issues with my talon at a mitsu dealer
Well seeing as we are very near to each other you may recognize these places: Back when I had my '95 Talon AWD, Mountain Mitsubishi in Tacoma, Walker's Mitsubishi in Renton, and Auburn Valley Mitsubishi in Auburn wouldn't help me because it was Eagle. They wouldn't even look up parts because the VIN was Eagle. They all told me to go to a Chrysler or Dodge dealer. I'm just fortunate enough that Bruce Titus Mitsubishi down here in Olympia is also a Chrysler dealer, so they will help me.
