I have a 1996 GS-T that will crank, but won't fire. I feel like I've tried almost everything possible. I've been through so many forums, and not a single one was able to help solve my problem. So here I am posting a new thread. The 96 GS-T has a rebuilt 6-Bolt engine. The internals are fresh, and so is the head. This engine was ONCE running, but the timing jumped and clanked some valves. We replaced the valves and the compression test reads 120psi across all cylinders. Should be good enough to start. I've had a DSM running at 80psi before, and have came across forums saying that 120psi should be enough to run. But after the clanked valves, it never ran again.
To simplify this, I'm going to make a list of things that we have done:
1: 6 Bolt CAS
1.1: We switched the CAS to a NEW 94 CAS.
1.2: We've made sure it's not 180 out.
1.3: We know that the CAS is working, when adjusting, you can here a relay make a noise.
1.4: CAS wiring is correct. It ran before.
1.5: Set engine to TDC, and CAS to TDC.
1.6: Tried toying with the CAS while cranking.
2: New injectors installed
3: New spark plugs
4: New coil pack
5: New spark wires
5.1: Tried multiple firing orders
6: We've tried 3 different ECU's.
6.1: We've tried the 96 OEM ECU
6.2: We've tried another 95-96 OEM ECU
6.3: We've tried a 95 ECU with ECMLink
7: New fuel pump
8: New fuel filter
9: Tried cleaning out the gas tank (still kinda nasty)
10: Tried fresh fuel
11: Relays look fine. (We could double check if anyone knows a relay that prevents firing)
12: We've pulled out the spark plugs and connected them to the spark wires to see if they fire. They are firing.
13: Fuel pressure was good.
14: New head gasket.
15: New battery.
16: We've tried 2 different MAF sensors.
17: Engine has new O2 sensors.
18: Added a catch can.
If you want data from ECMLink, here are ALL the values that I see when cranking the car:
1: RPM: 115rpm
2: IntTemp @ 63F
3: Throttle Position @ 7% (Foot is off the pedal)
4: LTFT Lo is @ 0.0%
5: AFRatioEst is @ 2.4:1
6: MAF reads 15.6Hz
7: Airflow is @ 1.5gm/s
8: CoolTemp @ 56F
9: CombinedFT is @ 0.0%
10: MAFRaw is @ 15.6Hz
11: Front02 is @ 5.00v
12: KnockRet @ 0.0deg
13: ISCPosition @ 120-
14: TPSVolts @ 0.92v
15: Timing @ 5.0deg
16: LTFT Hi @ 0.0%
17: STFT @ 0.0%
Has anyone faced this problem before? I'm at a stopping point, cause I have no idea how to fix this problem. I understand that in order for the engine to run, it needs fuel, compression, spark, and timing. All of which is working. I don't know why it won't fire. It ran once, but never again.
