Hey guys. I am mid build in what is going to be my sunday car. I would really like to pull 300kw out of it. ATM the parts look like it will create around a 230kw figure.
I was wondering what would be the best turbo to put on to it to keep it at lowish psi and be able to get over 300kw if I wanted. and then what is your recommendations on injectors? 1000cc's or 1300cc's? what brand? what do i do about the rail? should I use the N/A intake where it has direct injection to each cylinder? All help is much loved to make the power gains on this car so please throw down your thoughts and love. Cheers guys
 
what duty cycle will you be running at? i found this calculator for injector size and at 300kw (400hp) at 90 percent duty cycle you will only need about an injector size of 850cc to meet that requirement, the less the duty cycle however the bigger the injector size - http://fuelinjectorclinic.com/hp-calculator - as for turbo size depending on your goals with boost lag etc, id recommend the hahn 20g is a good place to start as for turbo size, if you have all the supporting components to make that 300kw than it will flow enough air to make anywhere up to that and a little over. Also the fuel rails i dont about on that particular car but on the gsx's and gs=t's every rail even aftermarket is direct injection into each cylinder.
 
Well technically it's called port injection, I say that because there is direct injection that places very high pressure injectors under the intake manifold spraying into the actual combustion chamber. It's not even on the newer evos even though Mitsubishi pioneered the tech, due to the high sulfur of u.s. fuel they don't offer it here. But obviously your not in the u.s. by the fact that you used kw instead of h/p. But that Hahn is a good turbo, if you got the coin I would go with either a new Borg warner e.f.r and use their turbo match bot, or a f/p 68hta or a garrett gtx. And as for injector size I would go with 1100-1300cc injector dynamics or f.i.c.
 
I'll +1 on FIC injectors. My 1120's are more than enough for me. By bigger and tune around them. By smaller and you are limited by the size you have purchased. Word to the wise. :hellyeah:
 
+1 to a FP 68hta. Its pricey but the technology is worth it. I believe it uses a 51mm dual 7-blade billet wheel capable of 51lbs/min. Smaller than a 20g but about 40more lbs/min.

Do you have a current turbo? Also, what boost pressure do you plan on running? A EvoIII16g might do 400whp with a built motor, 30psi and high octane fuel. But a 20g will make 400whp at around 25psi,stockish block and pump gas.

Then theres the Holset world of turbos...
 
Btw, I have a 1991 Galant VR4, and pulled around 36 lbs/min @ 18psi on my EvoIII16g. Im working on getting the volumetric efficiency up. I want 40-42 lbs/min @22psi @7000rpm.
 
What type of fuel will you be using? This will also determine what air to fuel ratio you desire. Different fuels respond to timing/AFR changes dramatically.
 
Hey guys. Has been a while. Been busy with university but now back into the build phase.
Here are a few details about the build and a couple facts that might help understand where i sit.
1st off I am in New Zealand which has quite a few limitations compared to America etc. mainly the expense and technology along with the fuel availability. Plus I am a poor University Student :'(
Current car has a forged 4G63 block, and to my knowledge it is stroked to a 2.1L
I have 264 re-ground cams in it currently
I will only be running 95 octane fuel normally and occasionally 98 for racing as it is all NZ really has that can be accessed... :(
Polished and ported head with evo 8 valve spring retainer kit with a thicker head gasket.
I have a N/A galant intake for the direct port injection and have 880cc PTE injectors which should be fine for now.
Currently getting a TD06 20g machined into the TD05 16g exhaust housing and going to run it off a stock manifold with a 38mm external wastegate. Manifold is currently not ported but I will port it if I stick with this turbo for a while.
Here in NZ there is a place called "SINCO" which make custom stuff. I have a T3 flanged, big port manifold made up which is what I am looking for a turbo for. I had a Holset HX40 set up with it but never ran it as I didn't think it would be what I wanted. I am looking at getting a FP Red and if so I will go with their ported manifold
Next off the bat is an independent ECU setup which is a "Link G1" plug and play system.
So atm the turbo idea is being dealt with but is not ideal. When I started this thread I was happy with the 300kw (400bhp) mark but now that is just a starting figure/ daily driving material. So I am looking at keeping this car as it is due to the fact it can support much more power however I am going to begin another build from scratch under the title "Dream Build" which I will eventually put into something.
This is currently around the $8-9000 mark with all the extras such as suspension, breaks, gauges, paint etc etc...
I was wondering, From this long segment, if you would be able to decipher anything I could do for small performance upgrades and even aesthetics for these older cars. The "Dream Build" will consist of a 4G64 block with a 2.3L output due to the crank and etc... lots of research to come and all input will help in the process.
