i read that +35 is the best for 2g dsm and mine is a 1995 talon awd just quick can i use +25 or is just better +35 offset less problems cause the style of rim i like they have it on 25 offset thanks guys

Hm. I, personally, wouldn't be making a decision on this without knowing the tire size. The first point of inside contact on a 2G is almost always the corner of a rear tire against the knuckle. Unless you do something crazy, the limiting factor is rarely if ever the wheel, itself.

Goon, why do you say +27 for a 2g? I know the 1g guys had that all figured out and such, did someone do it for a 2g as well? It is hard to believe that even though 2g and 1g suspensions are completely different that the same offset is best for both.

Feel free to say I am wrong LOL, I am just curious where the information for that is

thanks i will is just that i read a tread that says 35 offset was the best for 2g

The reason that you have read suggestions of offsets as high as +35 is that people are trying to get the rear tires to tuck inside a rolled fender lip with correct amounts of camber.

The reason that you are now getting suggestions of lower offsets for a 9"-wide wheel is that people are worried that the wheel or tire will hit the rear knuckle.

Since we know that a 8.5"-wide +38 (Evo) wheel doesn't hit anything, we can be pretty sure that a 9"-wide +32 will be OK. (And given that I don't remember my +40 wheels being close to anything, I'd be surprised if a 9" +35 hits.) But that's just the wheel. What remains open if whether the tire will hit and that's why I asked for the target tire size.

Well I noticed an old member on here yesterday. I want to say his tag was RX3. But I cant rember, any way I checked out his profile. He has a mustang svt? Cobra wheels 17x9 with a 255 40 tire. After looking at ebay found out the cobra had the same bolt pattern in certain years but the offset was around 24. I was wondering if he had a spacer but having no luck finding his name under search. I think it was a 2g talon around a 98 green color.

with 2gb rear knuckles a 17x9+35 with a 255/40 tire will fit, but you will need to roll your fender

Well, there you go, then, OP. For a street car that doesn't need the added torque of a 245/40/17 (and doesn't face the 245 limit of some racing classes), the above would be my suggestion.

The only remaining issue would be this: some tires run wider at the tread than others. Perhaps black-gst could say which tires he or she had on those wheels, for completeness' sake.

If the offset really is +24, then you'll end up doing a lot more work on the rear fenders to get the tires to tuck. And spacers would only make it worse.

this was on my buddies car actually Sam at RRE's car, im not sure what tires he was running,

im on 17x8.5 +30 with a 245 and have plenty of room, im going to run 255/40s next :D

On my Evo 8 wheels (17x8 +38mm) the tires (245/40/17 Dunlop Z1 Star Specs) only had about 5mm of clearance. If I were going to run a 17x9, I'd be running a 255 or 265. I forgot that this isn't one of the racing subforums and we aren't talking about track tires that tend to have wider section widths than regular tires in their rated sizes.

Things heat up. Things expand. Things warp. Things twist. I've been to the drags trip. My car is built more towards road racing. I wouldn't run 1mm of clearance. My buddy has a mustang Cobra supercharged setup for road racing. Fully built suspension. Some crazy SSR wheels in mister widths. He's running 275s on the front and 315s on the rear. It has massive Brembo front brakes. 14" I think. And you can see on the lettering of the Brembo calipers where the back of his SSR wheels are rubbing on the lettering of his Brembo calipers. Now I don't find that acceptable. And he's got about 2 mm of clearance cold. So even on super high zoot full road racing wheels that were crazy expensive he's still got more than 2mm of flex on the track.
So like I said before I wouldn't run 1mm of clearance. I'm not picking on your driving. If you're only running it at the drag strip. Probably not a problem. Have you checking for rubbing after taking it for a spin in the back country twisties? Roads here suck but I can go 8 miles west and get into some super twisty rolling hills that even without breaking the speed limit will test my suspension.

I went to a road race even with this tires to test the rubbing if it was gonna be a problem and they didn't rub at all so maybe my 1mm of clearance is a little inaccurate and maybe i have more, but think about this. I have total of +37.2 on my offset, the OP is gonna run a 35, thats 3.2mm of clearance for him, and that's if my measurements is accurate on the amount of clearance if not even more.

INFO: +35 offset is the best for 2gs but that's for tucking the wheels AKA wheel fitment, but to not mess with the suspension geometry and get most out of your suspension is +27 considering a 17X9
