You’d think it’d be a fairly simple project.

Here's a model I found to get you started.

Im going to pass this on. Some times a small complex part with a bunch of diffrent angles can be made stronger by sectioning that part into multiple pieces and printing each part at different angles. Z axis is not your friend in 3d printing but if you understand it, you can make your parts much stronger.

In the works but you can see were this other mod for the center console is going. Ugh needs to be about a inch longer. I don't know how I screwed that up but time to fix it.

Has anyone printed the various 1g drip rail and other windows lining trim clips like the following?


That's not an exhaustive list of parts as there are lots of them... I live out in the desert and these are all totally busted on every car out here.

If there aren't any, I may try to design and print some.

I assume someone's already printing these but I didn't readily find them so here we go!

The STL file is included. It's simply 2 part washers that fit (at least...) a 1ga 1990 shifter to lock in the shifter base. It's close to an interference fit into the base it's self as well as the nuts are close to interference fit to keep it all tight in place.

The whole job takes 8 to print. I printed them on an old Ender 3D and it took ~25 minutes to print 2 at a time so it's very reasonable.

YMMV with different materials, I didn't torque these down super tight. A solid print may be a good idea if you crunch these when tightening them.

Ok its been awhile. Been upgrading the computers in my down stairs shop. I finally came across a Q oled touch screen that meet my goals. The bezel is a modified scan part of the original hvac and stereo bezel. I wanted the biggest screen avail without cutting up the dash and is considerably bigger than a double din radio, and with out looking like a tablet was sitting on top

After relocating my fuse box…again…I could definitely use that fuse box cover!! Have you published the file anywhere? or are you willing to share?

Some posts across the site about the 2G timing belt mid-cover lately. Worked on this one last year but have not made any further attempts to verify its accuracy. I know it’s missing at least one feature that shouldn’t be too difficult to add.

It is, in my opinion, an extremely long 3D print job so I’m not sure if/when I’ll get to it.

Also, to head this one off, I am not supplying the file at this time.

There are about a 1000 people waiting for a 1g /2g timing cover, please make one.

I'm really surprised we don't have more 3D printed parts stores popping up in the DSM world for plastic parts like this. Seems like a great opportunity for those who have a good amount of experience with 3D printing.

my issue is time and understanding. i do this at work but it's not as invasive as these parts are. some people can make scans and digest it down like the above timing cover. I've scanned some things at work but after that i have no idea what people do with them or how they are used. I assume they import them and use them as a guide but even then I'm too damn light on the knowledge of 3D design that I wouldn't know where to begin. almost all of my work is medical device related and made from "scratch" with calipers as custom or one-off designs and not reverse engineering parts.

Personally I wish, good ol corp management like to tuck that added skill to the "other duties assigned" so no extra comp for me! FML Just saved them over 100K on a couple simple design solutions too. oh well

Makes a lot of sense for them to pay employees a fixed hourly rate to do all the work. That industry probably doesn't have a lot of hobbyists making big money. Maybe some small enterprises going all in on some ideas and selling their own products, but the big corporations run the show mostly, with their in house design and manufacturing.
