Finally got around to taken pics and video clip of my XTUNE 3" N1 system. Def a great buy. $170 and it sounds great and let the engine breath a lot better up top. Even though it's 3" exhaust and I mainly got it because I"m going turbo it still runs great on my car as it sits now NA. It will def sacrafice some low end grunt for up top pull but trust me it's worth it. ONly problem is the ends funnel to 2.75 not that big of a deal and they should have sent one more gasket and bolt combo for the back of the cat. All in all def a great mod to the overal car. It adds a performance look sounds great and runs better. Enjoy the pics and video clip.

It doesn't elimnate the cat it is just as long as the stock unit it hooks up to where the cat is..well was I replaced the cat seperately with a ebay special resonator. A guy I know wanted it out his garage and I was doing exhaust work so I said why not I got it for 20 bucs so. I work in the wholesale parts field so I have connections tha will get my car inspected without any worries so I don't care and it def flows better. I figure that liitle funnel neck at the ends that takes it down to 2.75", still not bad, will be made up in no more cat restriction. Oh by the way that's 170 SHIPPED!!! ;)

Sounds good, Slippi. Can't beat the price either.

No flex section and no cat? At what end does it taper to 2.75" If it's the out end, that's gonna hurt you a bit.

$170 is a good find regardless.

According to the thread title, (and the posted pics) it is a cat-back exhaust.

Pretty nice... for only $170.00 shipped, that's worth cutting and re-welding true 3" ends. Where did you find it? eBay?

Not bad for the price. So is it full stainless or no?

It's not stainless like most cheap ebay kits the piping the whole thing was crazy light to I forgot to mention that too. I had a 3" Apexi exhaust for me old tsi and holding the whole thing up by myself was hard it was heavy and akward to the XTUNE kit was effortless. Just to give you an idea the shipping log from fedex has the whole thing including box and wraping and hardware at 18 pounds.

Just curious... How did you know the pipes would be 3"? The auction photographs (not surprisingly) don't look anything like what you have, and the image says "2.75" inlet."

It's a n1 knock off or atleast thats' what I put in n1 and that came up so I figured N1's are 3" so I guess I got lucky. Trust me as soon as it came in I was out with the mic making sure everything was cool.

You sure did get lucky... not all N1s are 3", some are 2.5". Look at the APEX'i website... there are two versions. Good find, though. I might buy one myself.

WHat kind of exhaust are you running now ?

Stock 2.25" piping with gutted cat, and a 2.5" Tsudo N1 style muffler.

Hardly ideal... but I've been holding out until the new turbo went in. I always planned on going to Miami Muffler (local shop with a mandrel bender), and getting an exhaust made there. They've always been cheaper than anything else... about $300 for a completely custom rig. However, $170, plus a little extra to modify it to full 3", is cheaper than them.

You could probably even get away with sawing off the necks/flanges, and connecting the sections with 3" exhaust couplers and clamps. It shouldn't take more than $25 for two couplers and four clamps. It might be slightly more difficult to remove and, but why would you have to remove the exhaust anyway?

Yeah cutting and welding and making it 3" all the way would be cool. To me the test pipe cat or whatever you want to call it makes up for the slight neck and it still isn't any smaller than 2.5 at the neck. A little back pressure never hurt ;)

Just food for thought that apexi I had on my tsi flowed enough to support a 65lb/min turbo and full setup and the dp portion was 2.5" for about two feet or so till it got down to where the flex setion would be on a stock unit then necked out to 3" for the rest. You figure this exhaust has a nex at the ends if you ad up the ends it's less than the 2' section my apexi was.

Not quite how it works my friend. On a turbo car 2.5" works for the first little bit of the DP because the exhaust gas is so hot. On most street power cars, it's not a big loss. But the way yours is, going big small, big small, is only hurting things by having to squeeze down then get thrown back into a larger pipe. And honestly, if you're going turbo, "backpressure" is the enemy.

I understand both those points but two things. ONe the single most restrictive point in any exhaust system is the cat..I no longer have a true cat. Two back pressure is bad in excess on a turbo car but it is also what helps a turbo spool faster it just has a ill-effect on top end power. This car is gonna be my dd and not anything record breaking. Final setup will be like a 20g with supporting mods so this setup should flow more than enough to support my needs. If I was aiming for 400whp or something nuts just like paul said its but a cut and weld away. NOt to mention there are only two points in the exhaust that neck like this.

Back pressure is always the enemy, scavenging is your friend though, especially N/A. The fact that it necks down at every flange is only creating turbulence and disrupting the flow. Honestly it would be more beneficial to have it the same smaller diameter as the flanges instead of flaring in and out.

Nice find though, can't beat the price!

Backpressure is never a good thing, unless you are talking about a car that is tuned for backpressure and can't adjust itself for the increased VE and "double loading" with a carburetor.

Backpressure will make a turbo spool slower. The effects are double fold with backpressure behind the turbine outlet.

Scavenging and velocity are what you mean by backpressure. Neither of these are quite as important post turbo as say a n/a engine since the turbine smooths out the exhaust flow anyway. This is why turbo cars can get away with a larger diameter exhaust system.
