So i go out to warm my car up this morning. Today was the cold morning of the season, It was low 20's. So i start it up, and everything is fine. I go back inside and when i come out i notice its running really strange. It sounded like a loud honda. So i rev it up a few times and its taking a looong time to gain RPM. I turn it off and back on, Same thing. So i just left and took it easy the 9 miles i had to drive. Well while i was driving i noticed it was lacking serious power. It sounded really choppy and had no power what so ever. I tried not to get into boost at all but i needed to in order to get up to the speed limit ( 45 mph). It was really wierd, The engine was vibrating so much that i thought my exhaust was gonna fall off. I thought maybe my timing best jumped a tooth, Or maybe my coil was not firing all cylinders. Well i got to work, and about 2 hrs later i went on break. I started it up and everything was normal. I drove around a little bit just to make sure, But it didnt happen since then. So what do you guys think? Could the cold some how cause the car to run on 1 or 2 cylinders?

Thanks

I'm Confused. So your car felt/sounded like a honda for a nine mile drive? Then it was fine? Weird...

Im thinking maybe your coil is going out.

Any CEL? The cold is possibly to blame for causing a sensor not to function properly, good thing the winter out there in CO has been fairly mild so far huh?

Next time it does it pull the plug wires out (while its idling rough) and see if it changes the idle any, if you pull one and nothing changes you aren't getting spark on that cylinder.

Misfire maybe? Is your valve cover gasket good? On my 3g eclipse one of the spark plug tube seals is out on cylinder 2, so when I start it in the morning it misfires and shakes/runs like crap until it's warmed up. I'd say check your plugs and see how they look.

I've had some problems with this is seems to happen when its warm one day and freezing the next. It may have to do with the baro and iat sensors in your Maf sometimes just takes the car a min to figure out what's going on when it just ran and it was 70deg now its 28deg :aha: also helps to reset the ecu once it gets cold out always helps with mine.

I was thinkin it could be his coil. Once the car warmed up it only fired on two cylinders. I've had this happen too many times, but when the car is cool it runs perfect.

just to clarify what Gofer said... you 'll want to pull your wires one at a time not all at once.

Most of the time that goes without saying, you never know though...

If you shocked yourself, that wire needed replaced... To the OP, any kind of condensation within the ignition system would likely cause this as stated above me. I would start with your plug wires, you could have a seal problem around the couil pack. That's my .02.

AllShallPerish: It wasn't that cold this morning. What part of the city are you from? WTF

Anyway, my Mazda did something similar to what you described if it was cold enough. I just adjusted the choke and that fixed the problem.
