Honda vs Talon tsi

I have somewhere around 6 grand saved up and am in the process of either getting a honda hatchback with a gsr swap or looking into getting a talon tsi. I know that the talon is quick yet it has consent problems because of their high mileage and turbo from what I have seen in the forums. Help me out what is the better bang for the buck because I can get the Honda w/engine swap for about 4500 and the talon for the same the gsr motor only has around 46000 miles on it and the talon has about 86000 and yes everything works on it and it has been certified by a local mechanic.

Thanks for your help

If that Talon looks like the owner rode her hard and put her away wet, then go with the Honda. If the engine swap in that honda looks even remotely half-assed, don't get it either. Either way, go with the vehicle that looks like it was more properly maintained. :talon:

Constant problems arise with modifications. When you start pushing out as much power out of that Honda as you do out of the Talon, you'll see as many broken/damaged parts as the DSM. Hondas all have low torque motors compared to DSMs...thats what breaks things.

My friend bought a 96 civic about 6 months ago. 2 months after that we swapped in a b16 and he's put about 1500 into the engine (type r pistons, crower stage 3 cams, titanium springs/retainers, ported head, type r intake manifold, dc header, greddy exhaust, nx 50 shot) and he ran a 13.2. All for around 5k. It seems pretty reliable, he beats the shit out of it, and he hasn't broken anything in 4 months. He revs it to 10k everyday, and he's gone through about 20 bottles of nitrous. If you have the money to maintain the talon then go for it. I can say from experience that it isn't cheap to build a dsm and keep it running.

I owned 95 integra non-vtec which i turboed and it was great little car. Even at 8 psi the car ran really fast, but traction was issue for me and i hated it. Thats why i got me 1g awd talon now. I really like this car now, it has nice low end torque and i have usefull 1st and 2nd gear instead of just sitting there and spining like with my integra. But i'm gona say that its' not nearly reliable as my integra was.

A lot of DSM guys don't like Honda's, but they I love them.A GSR powered hatch (92-95) is a 13 second car...all motor...pretty impressive.I love my TSi AWD and my 90 Integra equally, but when it comes down to it..The honda is a better car.I'm probably gonna keep my talon for a long time, but my next project is gonna be a 96-98 hatchback with k20 RSX-S motor.IHE and hondata reflash will put you at 210-220hp to the wheels in a 2200lb car..... :thumb:

The low-buck nature of these cars has led people to belive that you can take a 150,000 mile car,put 200 bucks into it,and have a 11 sec ride and never have to maintain it.

Before modding,do ALL the preventive maintenance stuff-Timing belts, replace ECU caps, etc etc. And do the work completley and correctly (say for instance, when doing a TB,dont skimp on replacing all the rollers, the tensioner, and harmonic balancer) dont half ass...

Hondas are nice reliable commuter cars, but in the wrong hands neglected and having had the living shit run out of them, can have their problems too.

IMHO,a DSM has WAY better bang for the buck than a Honda. A DSM may take a bit more maintence, but maintained and driven with some sense, will be a reliable ride too.

FWD with any kind of power is futile on the street on radials...AWD is way more enjoyable once you start making some power. FWD cant compare in the snow either.

I have daily driven my 12 sec GVR4 for 3 years relativley trouble free, other than minor stuff like replacing belt, leaking DP gaskets, ect. I actually bought a 2nd GVR4 just to put all the hand me down parts form the first one... ;) I have several other freinds that have had the same experience.
