Hey, sooo here's my problem. I found a 99 GST that looks to be in good shape, 119k miles, however the engine is basically done and gone.. needs a new one or a rebuild (Supposely a rod or piston). Now, the body is in good shape and its automatic trans that also appears in good shape (i<3Manual) anyways; The asking price is 900$. So basically im debating on buying this and dropping the engine out and either pulling one from the junkyard for 95$ if in decent condition OR If i should spend 1500 on a 35k motor. I'm just wondering if this sounds more like a steal or just too much of a hassle than whats its worth. Would like to know if anyone has any experience with this or advice if they've been through it, would be greatly appreciated.
Im always hearing DSM's and breaking down and having a deep pocket but I also realize its also how you treat the car.. Treat it bad and bad things will come.
My other alternative would be an accord with an H22a for 1700.. please dont bash haha

P.S. I'm a Mitsubishi guy :thumb: Thanks for the time reading!

Of course it'll take work, but once you boost you won't look back, you'll have too much of a smile on your face. Just remember these cars tend to make you want to mod them more and more and baby them. Like anything the downtime depends how well you do things and how you use it. I say if you have your mind set on it, do it. If on the other hand you need a car now, grab another car.

$1500 is way too much for a motor with 35k miles.

Good luck finding a 4g63t in the junkyard for 95$ :p. I havent seen one in the junkyards around me period!!

If all possible, rebuild the engine that is in it and you will know what you have. It will be a great project and 900$ doesnt seem like a bad price at all.

if the gst has a strait body the shell alone is probly worth that much especially if averything inside works and is in good shape to.

for the engine instead of buying an entire engine just buy the bottom end since it sounds like thats the problem. i dont know how much you know about the cars and if your handy your self but you could just get a six bolt bottom end swapped.

just remember if this is a project your good if your trying to fix it for DD expect to spend at least the 1500 to get on the road cause you never know what else is wrong since you cant run it right now.

Lol, sounds about right! I looked for well over a year for my GST. Like was previously stated....if the shell is in good shape sounds like a good deal to me. But you just never know what else may be wrong.
