99 gsx engine runs like poo poo!HElP!

I recently put a 14b in my 99 gsx, I took it out for about 10-15 miles with no problems, a week ago I was taking it out after switching the alternator and it died on me, I restarted it and it was idling at 100rpm or so, I raised the rpm and started driving it, once it starting spooling up it sounds like the turbo is spooling and it sounds like a boost leak, but the car is studdering, so I make it home with no boost. Now it continues to run very poorly, I can't drive it, it will not go over 5rpm, once it hits it, it starts shuddering and going down. Now, if I disconnect the wastegate and open the flapper it still idles poorly but I can take it to 7rpm (Standing) and it doesn't studder. Right now it sounds like a carburetor at the tailpipe, the spark plugs are super coated with black dry substance. The computer pulls timing 23 degrees when I push the gas pedal. I dont know what it could be, everything checks out good, could it be the turbo?Could it be a bad knock sensor? I don't know what else to check!

Short version:
Studder above 5K rpm and climbs down, idles like a carburetor car, black coating on spark plugs. Disconnect actuator arm and it does not studder but poor idle still.

Error codes: P0500: Speed sensor fail (I don't think related to the problem)

Fuel pressure OK
Timing OK
Compression OK
Spark OK
Injectors OK
Boost leak OK
MAF OK (most likely, makes a difference if I unplug it)
Knock sensor Not checked (I believe you can't really check them without an ossiliscope, but could all this be just because of a bad knock sensor?)

mmm do a boost leak test. The dry black stuff is most likely carbon build up. Change the plugs as well. You might be running rich so I'm guessing it's a leak.

Well, as I mentioned in the first post, boost leak test was done, (from turbo inlet and from ic inlet @ 25psi) no leaks.

Then change the plugs. They only cost $11 for the set of 4 anyway.

There is no way spark plugs could do that, cmon!
Plus, I already tried a diff. set of Bosch spark plugs that came with the car, and no diff., same thing.

Bosch plugs are junk, get a set of NGK BPR6ES's gapped at .028. If you say the spark plugs are covered in carbon build up, why not replace them?

Cmon, it doesn't matter what spark plugs you pt i, it should work well enough w/o knock, I have a set of ngks, and I replaced them temporarily with the Bosch platinum that came with the car that it worked on for some time.

Read all of the FAQs before posting.

Your wastegate has nothing to do with your idle speed. When idling, your wastegate is closed.

Your problem sounds like the same problems I've had with several of my cars. When spark plugs get fouled up they cannot fire. When they don't fire your car doesn't run. Replace them with NEW plugs.

Have you tried checking your wires? You need to pull them off and check the resistance of them. They should be about the same resistence on all 4 plug wires. If 1 or 2 of them are wearing out then it will make your car spit and sputter under any boost and also idle like crap and cause the carbon build up on your plugs.

Could it be a bad IAC Valve? Possibly a busted TPS? just throwing things out there

Cmon, it doesn't matter what spark plugs you pt i, it should work well enough w/o knock, I have a set of ngks, and I replaced them temporarily with the Bosch platinum that came with the car that it worked on for some time.

If every newb had your mindset, then nobody would ever ask for help now would they? And if you honestly knew what you're doing you wouldn't be asking about your problems now would you? So what makes you think you're justified to post in other sections when problems like these have been covered numerous times? If you searched a bit you would know any other plugs besides NGKs suck for our cars especially plantinum ones. Carbon is an excellent insulator so I wouldn't be surprised if they are what's wrong with your engine. Spend $12, get new plugs and start her up. It's not like it'll hurt you a lot. And if it's not the problem, then the least you did is perform a regular maintenace and crossed off one possible problem. Change the plugs then come back and post if it hasn't gone away.

I do have a set of BPR7ES's gapped at 0.28, and they are practically new, My spark plug wires are practically new too with less than 6K miles on them, 8-9mm I believe, I tried a diff set of plug wires, and I know that the wires are good because they worked on a 1g fine with no knock.

TPS could not cause this condition, I had a cel light before due to a bad tps and it worked fine.

I'll look into the IAC valve and what exactly this is.

Sorry if I come off as arrogant, but it's just people start talking about spark plugs like they could make such a huge difference, especially when I mentioned that I put a different set it that worked fine previously. I could put in the crappiest spark plugs in the world and it still wouldn't work as bad as it does now. And it idles stable, nothing is wrong with idle.

And I am also interested how many of you actually viewed the video, it just sounds like the majority of repliers didn't even take a look. Thanks for the replies though.

Your plugs might be too cold. Try BPR6ES's. Also, fill out your profile. We need to know what you've done to your car.

I've been runnng them fine on the t25 and the BPR7ES's work fine on my 1G 14b so it couldn't be that.
