Ok so my cousin has a 96 420a eclipse I believe might be 4g64 but almost positive its has the 420a. he wants to turbo it amazon makes a cheap kit. probably wont last long but that's what he wants any tips on easiest way to put it together? im trying to convince him to sell and get a gst or gsx. if that case say get a 16g turbo how much of the stock engine needs to be replaced?

I've been down this road before .. My first eclipse was a 1999 rs 420a. I got tired of no power and decided to install a custom kit put together myself with a 14b stock rebuilt MHI turbo . The end results were nice it boosted nice at low boost play it safe because I just boosted a non turbo with factory internals . Overall is it worth it ? it was a grate experience lots of fun it can be done there are members on here who have proven that a boosted 420a is worth the respect . I'd say if he wants to spend the cash and time and time for research go all in ! It's a good starting point platform but there's a bunch of information on boosted 420a's around here enjoy .

Also just IMO I would not buy a turbo kit off amazon . Keep it official. If he's going to put in time and hard work and money do it the right way . The end results will be worth it .

Im working on the same thing right now. I have a 96 rs. Im going to rebuild the motor (mines stock with over 200k miles on it) After that's all nice and done, Im probably going to go with the Hahn Race Craft Turbo kit. Hahn has the fastest 420a turbo dsm (I believe, correct me if im wrong) The kit comes with everything thing you would need to install when you get it.

I still have a lot of research to do and money to spend. If he is serious about keeping the 420a, tell him to do all the research he can in order to get the best result.

I agree with Pandaman, don't go for the ebay or amazon turbo kit. Honestly I wouldn't go to ebay for anything performance wise. Go with the Real thing. Its always better to do it right the first time so you don't have to do it a second time

yeah I don't think he cares about buying cheap, and doesn't have much money, which is why I kinda said he should just get a gst and if anything build that up some. in that case say he gets a 16g what internals/fuel system upgrades would be smart boost probably 10-14 psi
