Well I spent last night and this morning changing my front hub bearings in hope of fixing this unique problem. There is a very annoying whining sound that gets louder as wheel speed increases. It sounds like metal on metal. I have had this problem for a while now but the car has sat since it got really loud. In this time I have rebuilt the motor, changed transmissions, changed all u-joints, new clutch and tb, resurfaced the flywheel to specs. And it still made that noise. Now I just finished the hub bearings and its STILL making the same noise!!!WTF:cry: The car drives and shifts just perfect. ITs just this damn noise thats killin me! I am all out of ideas and really need help bad. I dont trust taking my car to any shops and I am very capable of doing the work myself. I am thinking maybe a bad transfer case(I have 2 spares if need be). To be honest, I dont know what to think anymore, I am just so tired of chasing this problem! I tried the search and found one thread like my problem but no fix. Please help me!!! I want to drive again! "I wanna go fast!"

Where's the sound coming from? does it sound liek it's from one side of teh car or the other? usually if the right hub/wheel bearing goes out, it will sound lik the left side and vise versa. Or did you replace both sides

I replaced both. I dont know exactly which side its coming from cause its so loud that it sounds like its coming from one or the other

The only things left that it could be are the carrier bearings, transfer case, rear diff or the rear hub bearings.

Well, I have found the big problem! I went to drain the rear diff and change gear oil. I pulled the plug and nothing came out! WTF!!!! I looked at the drain plug and it has a huge chunk of metal on it and alot of little ones. I jacked the rear up and looked in the drain hole it was plug by a big piece of metal. Moved it and it started to drain. The fluid was grayish. Anyone selling a 4 bolt rear diff?????

After hearing that you better check the fluids in all of your drivetrain

Trust me I know that the motor and trans and transfer case are good!!! I just finished my rebuild! But I have been chasing this load noise for a bit just before the rebuild.

Well, I finially figured out exactly what that bad noise was and where it was coming from. The rear carrier. Aparently the magnet on the oil drain plug had come off the plug and went through the gears and ****** it all up. I found another rear carrier to match my car and got it off ebay for like $200. While waiting for it to arrive, I tore into the old one. All the gear teeth are in very good condition, no damage. I am thinking that cause its magnetic it went right to the bearings inside and took them out. After finding that out, I got my used carrier. I opened this one up too. DAMN! This thing looks like new!!! I sealed it all back up and installed it. Finally! The noise was gone for good!!! I think that I am going to replace the old bearings on the old carrier and have a spare. Just in case!!! I am so happy now!!! ROFL:rocks::thumb:

Glad you figured it out and got it fixed! I guess you can edit the title and add teh "resolved" logo to it... "and that's a good thing" ( as martha stewart would say LOL )
