Loud whining sound

Help!, Here's whats going on DSM family I have a 99 non-turbo 2.0, 420A engine car has 139,330 miles on it its my baby. I try and take great care of it I guess it wasn't good enough. I put a new radiator, spark plugs spark plug wires, did a oil change and oil filter in June its August now so for the last week I've been having troubles starting the car having to turn the Key plenty of times before it started yesterday I finally found free time between both of my jobs to actually look at the car and I noticed that it had NO OIL smh I check for leaks all the time I guess i'm weird like that so I go and put oil in the car it starts right up but with this loud whining sound that doesn't quit it sounds like it coming from the timing belt area I was thinking it may be the steering wheel pump or maybe something wrong with the timing belt I don't think it has spun a bearing/ threw a rod because its not knock could someone give me some insight I've had this car for years now and love it to death but i'm nervous about the repairs not knowing if i'ma be able to pay for a new engine if it needs it :-( and my voltage is running super high at 15 I know that's not good

I did a full oil change and oil filter in June and there were no leaks, plus I check whenever I get in the car. The past week I have been having problems starting the car having to turn it over, it takes 2 or 3 times to get it to start. I checked the starter, checked the alternator, checked the battery and all are fine, but the voltage was running high at 15V. So yesterday I decided I was going to find the problem; I started checking everything and then checked the oil and it was bone dry! So I go and get some oil, I fill it up and it starts right up! But there is this loud whining sound, I don't think it is knocking and I don't think I spun a bearing or threw a rod, its just a loud whining coming from where the timing belt area is. I think the car still runs, it has its power, but the noise does not stop! Someone please help, I love this car and just scared. Will I have to let it go? Or buy a new engine? Maybe its the timing belt or power steering pump?"

Was you're oil.... Actually bone dry... Or were you just low? If it waas bone dry you probably have some MAJOR oil leak or neglect your car substantially.... Your last oil change was in june? how far have you driven since then? when was the last time you checked your oil level since the oil change? Usually you need to check on your oil pretty often like once a week. I do anyway, if not before every time i drive. Manual suggests every 3k miles or every 3 months. You're hitting the 3 month mark, that's why I'm curious how many miles the oil has on it. Usually a whining sound is the alternator going bad, you did say it was over volting so that COULD be your culprate. This oil thing you were saying has me sketched out for you though. That sucks.

yeah the Voltage is at 15 so I was thinking that maybe the alternator I haven't did the disconnect the negative terminal yet to see if it stays on and the oil was bone dry I work prob 15miles back and forth to work I need to get better with checking my oil though

So you ran your car 15 miles or more on a bone dry oil pan Dude you have other issues. im VERY surprised your motor hasn't gone kaboom. Better knock on wood.

I had a tbelt tensioner on its way out that made some whining. It's a possibility.

yeah I know man I was knocking off by not checking the oil hopefully I didn't throw a rod or mess up my engine I'm going to have it looked at in about an hour at a shop but shops cant be trusted smh i'm so pissed at myself and about that noise it was making for you was it a loud whining sound that just wouldn't quit

Nope mo leaks shop guy said its a piston ima get a few more people to look at it but I'm pretty sure that's it with the lack of oil being in there time to find a rebuild kit

So I'm pretty sure I've thrown a rod so where's the best place to find a rebuild kit and oh I have the 2.0 420a non turbo I think they have a model with a turbo would I have to do a lot to change the car or can I buy a 420a rebuild turbo kit ps if I knew the answer I wouldnt be asking so please with the smart comments

When you say change it, do you mean swap the motor in, or swap the entire car? Motor swaps from a 420A to a 4G63T are devilishly difficullt, or so I hear. Requires a decent bit of custom fab and money. It would probably be cheaper to get a turbo put on your 420A. In turn, you would get better bang for your buck trading for a turbo car.

If you mean swap cars, and you want turbo, then I would be on that like white on rice...

I understand what you mean, but is it really worth all the money and time you'll put into it? You're looking at a few grand, easily, and depending on who's doing the swap, you could be out of your car for months. I'm in the same boat. I'm selling my 97 RS for a different DSM, too. This isn't just my first DSM, it's my first car! But the amount of money you'll put into it to keep it just doesn't make sense unless you just won the lottery. For less money, you'll end up with a faster, more reliable car that works better then a swap would and will taken less time.

Not trying t be cold or depressing, but swapping motors just doesn't make as much sense in DSMs as it does for Hondas and such. Too much stuff to have good, for too much money.

I understand what your saying and right now I'm in a rental and need this car back asap found a rebuild kit for $375 online I'm going to rebuild this engine and call it a day for now until I'm ready to part ways
