Loud Whining Sound in first gear

2 of my DSMs do this. In first gear you hear a loud whining sound. No, It is not the turbo spooling up. It comes from the tranny. ONLY does it in first gear. One car is extremely loud and the other isnt as noticeable. Any idea what causes this or if its something I should be worrried about?

1st to 2nd synchro wear. Mine did this for about 100 miles until I was no longer able to shift to second.
