Loud whining and no oil pressure

Hey everyone, I did a little searching and I think I might have found the answer but there is no reply saying he fixed it. Here is the story, I just recently finished building my motor. Stock rebuild, 6 bolt, balance shaft eliminator, reused oil pump(looked good and didn't really have the money to replace it at the time), new water pump, new timing belt. I have a little over 500 miles on it.

I was driving on the freeway tonight at about 70 and heard a loud whining noise, it sounded like the timing belt was rubbing on the plastic timing cover but a lot louder. My oil pressure gauge was almost all the way down so I pulled off the freeway and into a 76 station. As I was about to turn it off the oil light came on so I cut the engine and had it towed.

The thread I found has the same problem. He said as he dropped the oil pan he found the eliminator shaft in the oil pan. It does not say if that was the whole problem or not. I would think if the eliminator shaft fell out it would still have pressure. I was going to IM him but he hasn't logged on in 2 years to the day. Here is the thread I am referring to.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks for reading.

If the stub shaft for your BSE fell out, you would not have oil pressure, and you will at very least need to replace the oil pump.

The driven gear of your oil pump is on that shaft, so (if it fell out) the noise you heard was the oil pump's driven gear grinding into the oil pump housing.

Exactly what I was going to say as soon as I saw the thread title. My cousin had this happen and it destroyed the Holset turbo he had just installed.

Thanks for the replies. I forgot to mention, there are no leaks and the oil is still full. So the stub shaft sounds like its the culprit. I'll be pulling the motor in the next day or so, I'll let everyone know what I find.

check the oil pump b4 you do anything else and cause more damage. oil pumps knows for eating into the case when balance shafts removed completely

I hate to bring this back after 2 years but I noticed I did not notify of the outcome. It was the BSE bolt that backed out and destroyed the bottom end. I used loctite, but apparently not enough or not torqued enough. How can I edit this to resolved?

Sorry to hear on the BSE bolt, cost you another short block rebuild ? On the top of your first post of this thread, on the black bar right hand corner says Thread Tools, you can click that and mark as resolved

Yep, another short block rebuild. Then I lost oil pressure again about 6 moths later, oil filter came off and lost that motor for good.... String of bad luck, New motor seems strong. Thanks for the help.
