Which/What gauges should I get? [Merged 12-6]

Autometer Phantom gauges have worked well for me over the last several years and have proven to be reliable

Search around this topic comes up at least once a week. Air/Fuel and EGT are pretty worthless. Boost it a must have. The other two I would get are oil pressure and water temp. Both important things that are nice to have real numbers for.

1. boost gauge
2. wideband
3. oil pressure
4. water temp

my .02 on importance (and how I have them on the car). As for type of gauge, I really really like the prosport amber gauges. If I didn't already have all cobalt gauges, I most certainly would have bought those.

I agree with all of this statement. I have the prosport gauges in blue, and for they price they simply cannot be beat. I have boost and oil pressure in my gauge pod, and wideband display(NGK AFX) mounted under it.

I'm sure you've received and fitted your gauge pod by now...How did it turn out?

I bought a Glow Shift gauge pod for my 240 a while back and it was the biggest waste of $6.99 ever. Texture didn't match, the pod didn't fit the pillar contour in any direction, and the plastic had a real, real cheap feel to it. -- Just my .02 in case you haven't made your purchase yet.

I finally had a nice worm day to install the pod today, so as promised here are some pics, I think so far they look good and the install is extremely easy (as long as you know what switched 12V power (power that comes on with the key on) (I got mine from the cigarette lighter), constant 12V (I got mine form the back of the CD player), and a good ground (I took mine from the left of the CD player) This is pretty obvious but for anyone who is new to gauge installs remember only run 3 wires down from the pod, all the other ones tie them to their respective wires. Oh with the glowshift gauge pod remember to remover your old "A" pillar prior to installing, they say you can just tape it to the old one but that would look so tacky and you would stick out a bunch all you really need to do to hold the a pillar is drill one screw and that's about it. Oh and remember NOT to buy the oil filter adapter (completely useless in my case with a 3" down pipe, no room to fit it) you can use one of the extra holes by the oil filter housing and get a 3 way or an reducer (in my case to fit a 1/8 NPT size fitting, any good local hardware store will likely have one). The one thing that didn't work out so good with the glow shift gauge is that one the oil gauge the button is sticking and I have to push and pull it out manually to change colors, I'll give them a call and see what that can do plus I need to return the POS oil filter adapter. (Don't mind the wires routing and the crappy hole in the heat shield I'll fix it in the morning)

i got the air fuel from Glowshift, Its analog and it actually broke. I think the needle went the whole way around and it broke or something LOL :) Looks good though

Ok i have a problem i ordered two glowshift gauges boost and oil pressure. Im having problem installing the oil pressure. What does the stock pressure sender look like? And it didnt come with the wires for the sender. Any help would be great.

so i have a glowshift white faced boost gauge and i know i should get a wideband o2 which is like 200 on thier site but what should my third one be. the ones i see that i should get are either EGT or fuel pressure ( i plan to run a 16g with 255 wally 550cc's and afpr). are there any other considerations and which one should i get for my third, jeremy

You only need Boost and Wideband o2. If you know exactly what your air / fuel ratio is, then you'll never look at an EGT. An EGT is great when used in conjunction with the narrowband o2 AFR gauge.

I'd go with something important like oil pressure if I had to fill the third gauge slot.

Boost and wideband gauges are a MUST have. Everything else is not really needed but it does help. Oil pressure, or water temp or egt would be good ones to get.
Personally I run:
Boost
Wideband
Oil pressure
Water temp
Volt meter (on my turbo timer)

I would say that if you have a program like DSMLink that allows you to log wideband readings then a gauge is unnecessary, but you definitely need to have some way of knowing what the wideband is reading. Personally I've found the most useful gauge to me has been my water temp gauge, I can't tell you how many times that gauge has saved me (to be fair, we did have a massive issue with a warped head pushing coolant under boost, so it was more useful to us than to others). Other than that I would say an oil pressure gauge is also a good choice. Personally we run Boost, Oil pressure, water temp and log AFRs with DSMLink.

I have Prosport Egt, boost, and oil pres. I would recommend those three, but I also have a wideband that sits on my steering column. I would get a wideband too if you can afford it. Just depends on how you plan on tuning and what kind of setup you have.

As of right now I have all glowshift gauges. Narrowband A/F, Volts, and boost(the kid before me chose these, not me LOL). I was wondering what you guys are using or plan on using. I think I want to ditch the narrowband and the volts for a wideband and an EGT. Any input is appreciated.

Wideband +1

Oil pressure or EGT

Depending on what management system you are planning on running you can monitor wideband through that and use you other pod for OP

Well i plan on picking up a safc 2 on thursday and as of right now i have nothing to log with. I dont have a palm or a pda or anything. I really dont wanna spend a whole lot for logging, and i already have a laptop to use if i could figure out what software and cables to log with the laptop.
