The point of this post is what?

Does it lend any assistance to the subject of the thread? Yes it's a rhetorical question and the answer is....No it doesn't.

Definitely go with a boost gauge regardless of the other gauges you choose to run.

I'm running an EGT and Oil Temp. Any problems running excessively rich/lean, or if a spark plug starts to misfire, and the EGT will increase. Plus, the lower the EGT, the higher your fuel economy. You can sue it to figure out how to best maximize your fuel (on our high prices these days), so it serves multiple purposes.

Also, I typically find that the heater starts to work when my oil temp hits around 130 Degrees Farenheit. Plus, it's a more direct indication of your engine's temp (faster change in temp than your water temp), and our car's don't have one stock.

Ok this might completely be a noob question but oh well. Thing is I need a half way decent boost guage, and seems like the best way to mount it appears to be using the "A" pillar. I'm considering glow shift gauges and need some help deciding. So what 3 gauges would you suggest that I get for it and are the most important to have? I know I have to have a boost guage so that leaves us with 2 more to choose. I guess our choices are Air/fuel guage although I seem to be reading they appear to be useless with narrow band O2 so that brings me to my next question if I get a wide band O2 then does it come with a guage or can I still use this air/fuel guage? Exhaust Temp guage, whats the importance of this one? Fuel pressure guage, now with this one would it be electronic or do I have to run a fuel line inside the car? Oil pressure guage does anyone know if they include or if I'll need a filter sandwich adapter to get the oil pressure guage to work? Water temperature guage does anyone know if they include or if I'll need a water temperature sender? These are the gauges I need 2 to choose from I personally think 1. Boost gauge, 2. Oil pressure guage, 3. Water temp gauge since I want the gauges that will monitor the most crucial function, what ever it takes for me not to blow the motor. (other gauges to consider are Oil temperature gauge (whats better to monitor oil pressure or oil temperature?), Transmission Temperature gauge, vacuum gauge, and volt gauge). Also anyone know if it comes with the triple wiring kit for connecting gauges or do I even need one?
If anyone has used glow shift gauges what do you think?

I can't pick the Exhaust temp gauge as one of the 3 I can choose in this package.
This will cost $142.98 shipped (for 3 gauges and a gauge pod for my 98 gsx) , is this a good price for gauges? Anyone know any others that work really well and look really good, for way cheaper?

I just put my glow shift boost guage in and its pretty cool works perfect. the only thing i hate is the gauge pod.

i love the subject line LOL.

What gauges did you choose? Did you need to get anything additional? Did you buy from ebay or the glowshift website? How much did you spend? Was it a pretty easy install? Whats wrong with the gauge pod and why do you hate it?

I got the boost, oil pressure, and air/fuel. I got rid of the air/fuel and got a wideband. If I were you I would get boost, oil pressure, and probably EGT...

The gauges come with all the needed sensors, tubing, etc.

Cant remember the cost. I bought the pod and gauges seperate

i got the tinted series boost and oil pressure with the two gauge pod. the kit was pretty easy. the boost has three wires off the back 1 ground 1 9 volt power source ( which i wired to the radio so when the car comes on they turn on) and an acc wire i grounded them out and ran the power wires to the radio thru the dash. the only problem is the glare during the day on the gauges (thats why i have them on when the car comes on) but other than that they are great.

Yes i bought them on ebay http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/288006-i-just-bought-these.html check that out.

Does the oil pressure guage include a filter sandwich adapter or do I need one to get the oil pressure guage to work? How did it get installed (did you tap into some wires or needed to install some sender somewhere? Its electric right?

Hey Maxboost1010,

I actually talked to GlowShift because I too noticed the EGT gauge wasn't included in the selection. They told me you can choose it and than they would send you an email to confirm the new/more expensive price. Since I'm auto I was considering the Boost (given), EGT, and prob. the Trans. Temp gauge. EGT is a good one for tuning with as well as getting a wideband of course.

On my first gen the op sensor went right into the old slot idk about 2nd gen then you have to ground that and run a wire off that post to the gauge into the car then run the rest of the wires for that. pretty easy just time consuming because i wanted it done right and look good not just thrown together. boost is the easiest and i have no clue about water temp guage. i know they have a kit that you can cut your upper Coolant hose clamp this piece in there and then plug the sensor in and run the wires.

Hey Mike,

So with the gauges do I need anything additional to get the gauges too work or do they actually include everything in the package, what is the a OIL FILTER SANDWICH ADAPTER and is that included with the gauge, or do people use that to make the install a bit easier or what is the purpose behind it? Will I need anything extra with the EGT gauge? How was that install for you? How much extra did they charge for the gauge?

I haven't gotten them yet. I just like to ask a lot of questions before I buy something, even if it isn't another couple months. The EGT gauge comes with everything you need including the EGT probe. I believe thats the correct term? Of course for the EGT install you'll need to drill and tap your manifold unless your exhaust manifold is pre-drilled and tapped for it like the SBR manifold.

As for the sandwich adapter I believe people use it to make the install easier. I've never heard of anyone using it but you can maybe and try to search to see what others have said about those.

:dsm:

I did not get one of those sadnwich adapters. Just screw the oil pressure sender into the place of the stock one. The only downside to this is your stock oil pressure gauge will not work anymore.

Ok, that decides it for 2 of the 3 gauges, 1. boost gauge, 2. EGT gauge. Have a look at this install instructions by Ludachris http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-electrical-wiring/88370-greddy-egt-gauge-probe-install.html so it seems pretty straight forward too me so far, are the EGT probe sizes standard like O2 sensors since he taps it with a 1/4" tap (for the greddy EGT), will that apply to the glow shift as well (also his is a 1g does that have an effect?), I need to be clear on 2 things it has to be installed on the number 1 runner (is their a very specific spot or do I have a bit of lee way?) (the one closest to the driver side/ closest to the timing belt right?) and number 2, everyone seems to suggest that it should be done with the engine on so that all the metal filings go out the exhaust instead of getting to the turbo would you guys agree? Or should I pull the exhaust manifold? Oh and lastly after its taped all I have to do is screw in the EGT probe and that's it right (I don't need to install some sort of insert or anything right?).

For the third gauge you guys are suggesting oil pressure, and I think I will go with that but would like to hear some opinions why not go with the fuel pressure guage instead of the oil?

2 more questions. Is their a point to having the EGT if you go with a wide band? If you ago with a wide band do you need a new O2 sensor in addition to a wide band gauge, what would you guys recommend?

I got the Glow Shift gauges in my car they work great, looks cool too!!!
I put in the boost gauge/vacuum reader oil temp and oil pressure>> i like the indigo look

Hey RedTurboEclipse,
Those are some really excellent pics, good job on the install, I'm sold on the glow shift.
Looks like you have a boost, oil pressure, and water temp guage on the gauge pod. With the oil and water temp did you get the adapters they offer or were the parts in the with the gauge all you used? For the oil pressure guage did you use the same spot as the normal sender and just replaced the sender with one glow shift provided, or is their another spot I can tap at, since I don't like non functioning gauges in the dash. How did you install the water temp gauge? did it come with any type of adapter?

Examples of adapters I'm talking about

eBay Store - GLOWSHIFT GAUGES: Water Temp Sender Adapters: 28 mm Water Temperature Attachment, 30 mm Water Temperature Attachment

And since you already did this install how did you wire the 3 pods together? Did you use some type of distribution block but more importantly did the kit come with some kind of TRIPLE WIRING KIT FOR CONNECTING GAUGES such as

Ok I just ordered my Glow shift gauges with 3 pillar pod I went with 1. Boost Guage, 2. EGT (add $40 for the EGT if you want it in your package of the 3 gauges). 3. Oil pressure guage (I also went with a oil sandwich adapter that just bolts on too the oil filter housing (I think all you do is remove the filter screw on the adapter, and screw on your filter, remember not to over tighten he adapter its just hand tight) so you don't have to replace the factory oil sender I did this basically cause I don't like dead gauges in my instrument cluster the adapter cost me an additional $26) The standard Eclipse "A" pillar that comes with the kit is black my the "A" pillar on my car is gray so I chose the gray one (and $10) (but they waved this one for me ;) . My total damage was $216 shipped. (IS THIS A GOOD PRICE FOR THE ONES I GOT?) The way I ordered my package was by calling them and they actually seem to have a pretty good technical support and customer care department, they seem to answer some of my questions pretty well the 20 min or so I was on the phone with them. Just a heads up for anyone who's thinking about getting them find the item/package on Ebay first and then just call them and order it through them they will honor the ebay price, it appears their website price has much better shipping ($11.50) then ebay ($30) but over all with a package it cost about 20 bucks more to go through their website.

If anyone wants to know according to the technical support the Drill bit size for the EGT is a SIZE R. and the tap is a 1/8 NPT (drill and tap set).

Ok, next question from what I'm reading most people appear to use the cigarette lighter wiring, with that method are the gauges protected with the cigarette lighter fuse? How many gauges can be hooked up like that, since I figure its going through the dimmer circuit right? Does this did all the lights alot? Has anyone used some sort of distribution block if yes, how did you wire it up? Where can I buy a distribution block and how much do they run?

I'll let you guys know after it is done how it looks. (WOW I can't believe all this started with me needing a boost guage)

you should get boost, air to fuel, and oil temp.

Thanks for the advice, the only reason I didn't go with the air fuel guage is because I do not have a wide band set up yet, so on a narrow band O2 the air/fuel guage appears to be a little more then a light show, and I'm a bit tight on cash so going with the gauges that hopefully will keep me from blowing a motor (been there, done that NOT as much fun as I thought it'd be ;) ) the EGT is a really good one to get because at about 900 degrees shit starts to melt and the EGT will let you know if you are running too lean due to excessive boost or an injector not firing or something so in that aspect it is better then a air/fuel guage, now if you went with a wide band set up you probably don't need EGT but wide band seems to cost a considerable amount more, I'll go with that when I get more into tuning, right now I just got to figure out a fuel cut out issue I'm struggling with (see my other post if you guys have any ideas at http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/pro...rges-falls-its-face-around-4000-5000-rpm.html feel free to chime in and give me any advice believe me I can use it. As far as the oil temp gauge goes, I went with a oil pressure guage, I haven't researched oil temp guages yet, what would be better to get oil pressure or oil temp, and why?

I'm going to a local performance shop tomorrow. I'm looking to buy some guages, and will be buying a triple guage pod to install on the pillar. I was wondering which gauges you think would best for me as my car is stock now but I plan on starting my modifications very soon. Which ones would help me most once i start tuning? I'm thinking boost, A/F mix and Exhaust temp. I'll be going with phantom II's, they look very clean and seem to be a reliable choice from what ive heard. Any opinions on what would be best?
