Which/What gauges should I get? [Merged 12-6]

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

There's a million "which gauges" threads around here. If you can't figure out which gauges you need, try searching to see what others are using.

many people use gauges that other would deem "unnecessary", so it ultimately boils down to personal preference. A good pressure gauge for the intake tract is probably the most important one to have though.

+1

Prosport gauges rock from what I've heard and Autometer's are expensive and there are many who say they're inacccurate. Remember that you have to install them to (or have someone I suppose) so decide whether electronic or mechanical.

Well, i went to autozone today and looked at the autometer they had. Plain white faces, with green blue yellow or amber lights. 63 bucks each. Looked somewhat nice. I might order from prosport tho.. i read alot of online reviews about them.. no complaints

What would you think i should do? Just go to local autozone and buy autometer, or try maybe glowshift or prosport?

Thanks!

From my previous posts, you'd know what I'd do.

hmm prosport.
They like 20-30 bucks cheaper than autometer to

the only bad thing i hear is during the day their hard to see b/c of the tint

IMO... stick with the tried and true Autometer gauges. I'm not saying pro-sports aren't worth it. I just don't have any expieriance with them, and I know that Autometer stands behind their product 110%. Their field tested, relativly cheap, and come in a very, very wide variety of styles.

If you do choose Autometer... I'd shop on ebay before going to Autozone.

Autometer's are expensive for a reason, they're probably the most accurate gauges. You should read up on some reviews of some of the eBay ones and try and find some of them since you don't wanna spend too much money. That's what I would do

I did a search a while back on ebay, for autometer gauges, i didnt get that many results. Than again Most im going to pay for each gauge is 75 bucks.

LOL... It's funny how some people think that Autometer gauges are expensive, while other's feel they're cheap.

In the whole realm of performance guages, Autometer (IMO) is cheap. Go price out what a Defi boost guage would run you compared to a mechanical Autometer one. That brings me to my next piont... electronic gauges may be easier to install (usually), but mech. ones are definitely the most accurate. Don't buy an electric boost gauge, that's just silly. I do prefer elec. water temp and oil pressure gauges though.

Yeah, gauges can get to be like 200 each i saw.

Can i change the light inside autometer gauges to w/e i want?

Well, with the original backlit ones they provide a colored "condom" to put over the light. I believe you get a red one and a green one (don't think there's a blue). It works pretty good, but if you really wanted to change to another color, it'd be simple to wire up some LED's to the back. Autometer backlit gauges use a simple light bulb that is easy to replace.

Many of Autometer's electric, full-sweep gauges can cost upwards of around $200, but most of their mechanical, full-sweep gauges and even their electric, short-sweep gauges can be had for $40-$65.

Yes, you can change the bulb on most Autometer gauges. They also offer LED fixture to replace the standard bulb.

if i were you i deff go with voltometer, blinky air/fuel ratio and Clock (gauge style) LOL) LOL

Autometer gauges are well proven over those ,that you mentioned. they are cheap and works awesome.Im using those for 6 years, and don't have any problems.Get the boost, oil pressure (electrical one) and EGT

Can you show me a pic of the style you mean?

Yeah, cause I dont wanna spend more than $70+ on each gauge like defis and stuff.

I personally own 2 autometer and they are great. So many different color schemes that you will find some that you like. Also, ebay is the way to go since I got a mechanical boost and an electronic A/F for 50 shipped.

good deals it seems

Yeah, i might order off ebay, they like 63 bux in stores, and 50ish on ebay

Like i said before i would recommend prosport there excellent quality and affordable......Autometer is not bad but there have been many posts with them being inaccurate i can't say mine were so i guess it's the luck of the draw....also please don't bother with the stupid blinky air fuel ratio gauge it's a joke get a EGT instead...Just my opinion.

prosport seems nice, i just hear alot of compliants about not being able to see them during the day
