Which/What gauges should I get? [Merged 12-6]

Like i said before i would recommend prosport there excellent quality and affordable......Autometer is not bad but there have been many posts with them being inaccurate i can't say mine were so i guess it's the luck of the draw....also please don't bother with the stupid blinky air fuel ratio gauge it's a joke get a EGT instead...Just my opinion.

I'd say get neither- get a wideband o2. I have the autometer tinted gauges. They are always on and viewable- however with direct sunlight which is extremely rare- they are not visible.

a/f gauges are awesome looking at night, but so useless
If you need a filler, go with 1 LOL

My friend has 1 on his civic.. it always makes girlls smile and laugh, ### its a big light show

As far as tuning goes...what gauges should I get that are crucial? I was thinking of getting a better oil pressure gauge, oil-temp, water temp, and A/F gauge... is that too much? Are they all "crucial"? Why should I get an EGT gauge?

Boost (PSI/inHg), WB A/F, EGT... 3 most important... Then Oil PSI, H2O Temp, etc... Now why you ask? An EGT is basically a pyrometer (telling the driver the temperature) that uses a thermocouple used to measure the exhaust flow for high/abnormal temperature. Its like Wideband and EGT are hand in hand. The engines exhaust temp can also tell the load distribution is even or not. A high EGT at lower speeds could mean the A/F ratio is too lean, etc etc. The EGT can also tell the temperature of the combustion chambers, and it really doesn't matter where you mount it at, so long as its in the collective flow of the exhaust, like the manifold collector (towards the #1 runner is where most people do it due to the fact the theory is that #1 runs the hottest due to its "leaner" mixture, which it can).

If you tune for minimal knock (or minimal timing dips) and have a wideband o2 sensor, then what does egt gauge tell you that a logger and a wideband does not? You'll need 4 EGT sensors to tell you if 'the load distribution is off'.

Considering we're all running boost (right?), mean best timing will always be a goal and not something we can go past without knock. Thus, there is no benefit to know where peak heat occurs in a timing curve. All we need to do is lean out and add as much timing as we can until knock (or timing retard) occurs.

A logger has about 20 gages in it. Good loggers also have programmable alarms so you can set it to beep if knock goes over 15 counts, for example. When I go on a fast backroad drive I also set an alarm to go off if coolant temp goes over 220. Or set whatever trigger you like.

My list of gages is a logger, boost, and wideband.

Not if you put it downstream in the collector (which has all 4). Well, do you put a wideband for each cylinder? No, you don't. So how can you be so sure that the WB isn't reading an even load? Cause its mounted somewhere in a collective downstream of flow, not upstream. There is a benefit of EGT, I just said some of it above me. Why wouldn't you wanna get one, other than the fact u can't "tune" with it in your eyes? Its a great warning device, just like all the others.

don't know about the gauges them self but I would go with a boost gauge ,oil pressure gauge and a air/fuel gauge if it was me just my opionion

An "A/F" gauge AKA "light show" is as useless as lambo doors and a bodykit. It doesnt tell you anything. As Defiant once said, you might as well plug it in to your radio, itll tell you just as much.

Well I purchased the Tinted series and I haven't really had the chance to run them (still installing upgrades) but I love the look of them.

As far as the whole name brand issue I don't think that you'll have any issue with them. The reason that Autometer is widely used doesn't imply that everything else is unworthy. It just proves that their sales and marketing department is doing their jobs :D . Don't get me wrong they're great and proven but they didn't have what I wanted out of a gauge for the price range that I wanted. Here are a few night pics to show their colors along with a video. And as for what gauges are needed I'd go with Boost and Oil pressure and since that basically covers what you really need (from that vendor) then the last gauge would just be your choice (maybe a water temp gauge). The middle gauge is the AEM WB just as an fyi.

I own a 97 GST automatic, lowmiles, and im looking to buy gauges.... This will be a daily driver and im pretty sure i can get 220hp to the wheels pretty easily, which should put me in the low 14's.. I just wanted to know what gauges would be the best to get and why.... thanks im not new to modding, but i am new to tunning....

cars owned
1995 Mustang gt (fast)
1996 trans am (super fast)
1997 Eclipse GST (fast maybe even faster than the mustang maybe)

Thanks guys.

Boost Gauge #1
Wideband o2 #2

You can go all out
EGT Oil Pressure Water Temp blah blah blah blah

But there not needed.

Get your boost gauge and wideband something to tune with and your off.

For my Daily Driver 1998 Talon I went with a boost gauge and EGT gauge in a autometer gauge bezel in the dash. Looks good, works great.

Boost and oil pressure, both stock gauges suck and both are very important to know. A wideband and EGT is overkill for a car you have no tuning control over anyway.

+1 The two I would pick. If you get the triple gauge I'd pick a water temp. gauge as well.
