Which Turbo Should I Get [merged] What Turbo

Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

With those internals you could go 450 no problem. You dont need a GT35R. Get a 50 trim for 450-500 WHP.
Did you get new main and rod bearings and all the arp hardware besides the headstuds? Like conrod and main stud bolts.
Valve guides and valve locks? If its all apart why not just do it ALL. Unless your like the broke help my dsm out fund dsmer. I know I am
 
ok thanks well I am wanting to get rid of the safc it came with the car. And i have heard of the dsmlink but not sure what it is for sure or where the best place to get it from. Any help there whould be great. I would love to make as much power as possible. With the super 16g set up its got a stock manifold i believe i no sucks. But i am wanting to get a bigger turbo and then getting a better manifold then.

DSMLink is a form of an EMS. It uses the factory ecu though.
Just go through DSMLink Homepage to get the dsmlink chip and hookups.
you will need an eprom ecu

that will tell you what ECUs you can find. search on ebay for one thats where i got mine from.
go with a Precision T & E SCM5031E its capable of up to 460HP. Thats my suggestion I have one lying around and I love it. Whatever turbo you decide go extenally gated it will be way easier to control boost that way. If you want more power then go GT35R.
As for a manifold setup go tubular.

Just search and search and search for everything. ive done hundreds of hours of online searching for parts and pieces and info on how to do things. Its a hassle but its the best way. I wish I could have had all that spoon fed but it takes the fun out :thumb:
 
for the head it was just checked out by the machine shop they did there normal doings to it. I put crower valves, springs and cams in it. All new valve guides and locks everything is new in the head. no port and polish. all the arp bolts i got. and got new rod bearings from raceeng.com not sure on the name of them. Ordered all my internals from raceeng. I am trying to do this right the first time. so trying to make everything new in the motor.
 
You always want to do it right the first time. I hate spending extra money. I did that way to much when I first got this car. I decided on what I thought my setup was going to be then I changed and wasted like an extra grand in parts I didnt need.
Im actually thinking of getting out of DSMLink though and going Full standalone with the AEM EMS.
 
yes i am going to be doing a port and polish but i am going to hold off on that until next winter because i am going to break it down and have the head cleaned and have them check everything for me just make sure the valves are still where they need to be. And yes i do have a labtop already. This has been the only bored i have been on that i have gotten a reponse to anything on. U Guys are great and like to voice ## thoughts thanks u all have been a big help.

O and another question on dsmlink i read the FAQ on there site. For a beginner in performance side. Is it pretty self explanitory on how to use it. I mean helps you through it. I dont wanna get it and then not have any idea on how to use it.
 
The DSMLink forums are excellent. They are very helpful and prompt at replying to threads. There is a 20 pg (or so) manual that comes with the program. Read thru it twice and it will make things go a lot more smoothly. The amount of control you have over tuning is overwhelming at times. I've never had experience with a standalone, but DSMLink is the best tuning device for our cars. It was worth every bit of the $550 I spent!
 
Just picked up DSM Link myself and it's awesome. I had an idle problem and I couldn't figure it out. Well it ended up being my idle switch, and since dsmlink can simulate the idle switch instead of having to pay for one and replace it i just clicked a couple buttons and there you go.

I also found my tps was off, and instead of getting under the hood and adjusting I once again clicked a couple of buttons and it's adjusted perfect now.
 
I believe i would be finding the guy who sold you that car and smack him across the face with the one turbo piston LOL. Thats so crazy but i believe it. some people are just assholes
 
did you say this guy is your friend? do you think he really knew what he was selling you or was he just going by what the person he bought it from told him
 
Yeah i am really pissed about this whole thing. I hang out with this guys son almost everyday. And his dad always talked this car up like it was the complete shit. He said it had everything that could be done to the car done. I was looking for a turbo honda because i have had them in the past. But my buddy was like his dad was selling this car cheap. So i said i would take a look at it. The car is real clean outside and in. And i took a ride in it and it still pulled really good at low boost. but it would cut out at some points. His dad said it needed to be tuned that he didnt no how to work the s-afc. So i took it down to get tuned and it wouldnt go past 5500 rpms without cutting out. So the guy down there said i needed to get a gauge for the fuel pressure regulator gauge to see where it at. So i went home and put a gauge on and it was at 65psi so i just figured it was running way to rich. so i put it down to 40psi and took it out and starting dialing in the tuner. Got it to smooth out pretty good but was having issues with oil shooting out the oil. Well that got so bad that it took out the alternator, and then put another one on and car would not run. I payed 4grand for the car, which if i looked at the bright side out it. If i was to star from scratch with a completely stock one i would of been at 4g for what it has done. And now i will no for sure what is done to the car. and that it is done right. in the motor rebuild i will have 1500 in when said and done. so i think thats not that bad. I am sorry i love writing novels :D
 
i would go back to the guy and be asking for some answers to all of this! then again it may be worthless to do it jut put it behind you! look at it this way now you KNOW what the car has done to it!
 
Yeah thats how i am going to look at it. I would of spent alot more in the long run to do what is done to it now. But yeah i try to avoid going to the kids house now. because of the whole thing but i make sure i tell his son everything and he relays it to him so thats all i am going to do. The dad knows i am on to him, and that i am pissed about it.
