Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

Bullseye S362, its compressor cover is bigger than a TO4S and definitely won't fall off at high rpm, 650's are still too small for 500hp.

Slick's right. 650 cc's are still way too small. DSMlink and 100's would be perfect. You could also look into some of FP's turbos, such as the 3052. And if you're not looking to rev over 7000, but still make up to 500 hp, then be ready to have a pretty short powerband, because on a small displacement motor (even with a turbo) you're not going to get a lot of power down low or in the mid range. If you had a chevy v-8, then that'd be a different story.

To beat a dead horse i would definatly look at some 1000cc and wally 255. Take a look at the turbonetics Gt-K's, not to popular with the 4g63 guys but i've heard nothing but good things and i got a peep at SEMA and they look pretty sexy. Performance is not an issue with these things.

I notice you don't have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator listed in your list of mods. I know the subject has been :beatentodeath: but with a 255 pump, you WILL get fpr overrun. Some try to claim it's not true, but those are the people to cheap and lazy to spend the $$ on that one part. Make sure you include that. Why don't you want to rev higher than 7k? Are you looking to conserve your tranny? If you're worried about your motor, put yoru mind at ease, because you can definitely rev higher than that.

I'm dropping a new engine in my GSX. I'll be buying a FMIC along with a new turbo. The engine will be a fresh stock engine, no miles and no forged internals. I'm just wondering what turbo to go with. I'd like to make high 300 to around 400 whp one day. And the two turbo's I have in mind are the 20g and the EVO III 16g. And if i do go with the 20g, how well would a new stock engine hold up to it? Thanks again guys..

How does lag compare between the 20g and the evo16g? I am building for 1/4 mile times, would the 20g be able to produce much quicker times?

Look at the 1/4mile times in the members section bro. a 20G is an upgrade from the 16G. I was also wondering which turbo to go with on my set up. I have the 18G atm. LOL lemme not jack your thread

If you're building a drag car then lag isn't an issue especially with a good launch control. I'd say the 20g will do you fine if you're looking to be in the mid-high 11's or possibly better, but I'd recommend something even bigger. Maybe a 60-1 or a Red (60-1 wheel with 20g exhaust wheel). You're going to have to external gate with a 20g anyway and they are $1000 so do yourself a favor and grab a turbo you can grow into instead of having to upgrade after one season. Precision makes a bolt on 60-1 that is a lag monster, but if you're at WOT all the time it's not a problem.

Good info there for sure. I personally have been looking at the FP3065 or the GT35R *scratches head* i dont know where to go LOL. Im still reading up on them until im ready to make that swap whish is probably this month

Your budget should determine this one. If you have money, then by all means, go for a FP3065 or GT3582R. Both of those are overkill for your goals however, and that would be future-proofing IMO.

I'd suggest a BB 50 trim for the stock engine (which is exactly what I'm in the process of saving up for). The PTE 5031 is a great turbo for your goals, and you can stick with mitsu, or go with a T3 housing if you want to get a new manifold. Also, since it's dual BB it will spool pretty fast and stay spinning between shifts better.

20g should get you close to your goal. It will be laggy of course

I am not so sure that a 20g would be considered laggy, I mean I have driven a car with a 20g and it has decent spool, my friends car with 264 cams and a 20g( I was helping him iron out a problem) spooled 20 psi by 3600rpms in third gear and thats not too bad considering it pulled freakin great!

If you really want good spool and power check out the borg warner s200 turbo, these things are basicly 50trim size but flow 55lbs in comparison to 49lbs of regular 50trims and they spool alot earlier! there is a guy down here on the islands that runs one one his evo VIII (he runs the s258 which is slight larger) and he spooled at 3150 rpms as logged by his aem ems with a rich afr(10.5 to 1) and only 18 degrees of peak timing! freakin insane!!

Well laggier than the 16g. 20psi by 3600 sounds great. :)
