Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

For pretty much a track car like you are planning it makes more sense to go with something garrett flanged for more flexibility and power potential.

I 'd suggest a GT 40, 4094 in particular. It won't need nitrous at all with your planned redline if you don't go bigger than .95 on the hot side, great power potential but somewhat pricey. Check out Borg Warner stuff as well if you haven't yet. There is not a lot of data available as of yet but from what I 've seen looks like a very promising line. Units with 66-70mm inducer with a well chosen hot side would suit you well.

Any of the turbos you listed would be sweet. The FP Mani/Fp3065 combo would make a sick car that could see street time, but a T3 35r combo would do that as well.

If you leaning more towards a single digit all out drag car, go T4 40R or 42R. Those can be driven on the street too, but lag will be significant.

how much are you gonna spend on a gt35R becuase a fp 3065 can get you the power you want by like 4700 ish and your getting one of the best turbos out there. i made 376 at 95 degree heat and i could have gone a little more safely but didnt want to spend the money on the dyno for like 10 15 hp. and that was on 93 no meth 24 pounds built motor. just my 2 cents from my experience.

I know this has been asked 100times before... but Im looking for a NEW turbo that I could slap on my all stock GSX that would work well with my all stock setup... I was looking at a few turbos on ebay, but I hear they are prone to failure.

evo II trubo?
small16?
Big 16?

whats cheap and well built?

Thanks guys...

you pay for what you get..if you buy an ebay turbo, don't be surprised when you have shaft play after 2k miles....then again, some people have had luck with ebay turbo's and brag about how well they are still pulling...search the forums!!

evo3 16g will support around 380hp, and spools a little quicker than a big16g

big 16g will support around 370hp with all the bolt ons and proper tuning

small 16g will probably do around 330hp with all the bolt ons and proper tuning

t28 is similair to a small 16g

14b would probably be your best bet if you want something to run well with your stock setup...a 14b will support over 300hp and people have ran 11's with them...they are pretty cheap if you find a nice one on trader or ebay, and they spool up just as fast as stock. The reason they're better is because the td05h turbine wheel will pull way past when the t25 (stock turbo) dies off which is around 5500rpm

hope that answers some questions for you

It's so hard to not simply reply "search"...

I've said this multiple times to multiple people... A big turbo won't do you any favors. Use the upgrade path. It's tried and tested. It works, there's no shortcut to making hp. And I believe I stole this from someone, but the biggest turbo you can put on a stock dsm is the t-25 (stock turbo).

I have had the FP T28 and I highly recommend it. Direct bolt on and looks completely stock. I recommend getting their 17psi actuator as well. I put that on my car and it was good power and great boost control.

You're looking for a turbo that is an upgrade from your T-25, but will still work well with your stock car? Obvious choice... get the FP Big T-28. Direct "bolt in" replacement for your T-25. Installation is so easy, a caveman could do it. ;)

By prone to failure you probably are referring to an "ebay 16g". Make sure when you look for a turbo on ebay that it is an authentic MHI turbo.....
All MHI turbos have a serial number on the side of the compressor housing...

49178-01030 = 14b - 1g
49178-01420 = big 16g
49178-01520 = small 16g
49178-01470 = evo 3 16g

Now you say you want something cheap and easy to install.....t28's aren't very cheap. I would get a 14b in good condition and have it ported. 14b's push 20+lbs of boost and don't cost anywhere near the price of a t28 or any 16g.

Your vehicle profile isn't filled out very well. If you have any other mods, put them in there or let us know. Anyways, most people don't recommend upgrading the turbo as the very first mod you do. You're gonna need fuel, tuning, intercooling, as well as intake and exhaust sytems to let it breath. It's better to build up a solidly modded car with the turbo you have, then buy a new turbo. (since the t-28 is a drop-in mod and everything will transfer over)

I had to do it the backwards way, since my t-25 died on me. I ended up with an 18g powered car, with no other mods. I've been playing catchup ever since. I'm still at the stock boost level, and I'm really really temped to turn it up every day, even though I don't have a fuel system yet. Now the clutch is done, and I won't be able to do my fuel system for a while longer.

Hey, don't clown on the guy. I'm sure there was a time where you had a bone stock car and wanted to throw a t4 on it or some crap like that.

I don't see Jay clowning on the guy, it's mis-information that needs to be addressed. Even if there is such a thing as bolt on GT35R variant, it would be a terrible advise which also needs to be addressed.

I would go with the 14b in good shape for a cheap upgrade. if you plan on doing an exhaust fuel pump and some other mods then go with a t-28 or evo3 16g but if you plan on staying stock the 14b is the way to go :)

Here's my .02. If you're going to buy a turbo, think about what else is going to have to be done and what'll already be off the car during installation. If you want a manifold or o2 housing you might as well buy that when you buy the turbo because there's nothing worse than buying and installing a turbo then realizing that you need an o2 housing or manifold ### you want more smooth power. Just think before you buy.
