Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

I have a question about choosing my new turbo. My goal is to go as fast as 12 sec in 1/4 mile. But I also want my car to be a good street car. So far, i'm thinking about FPT28/big16G/16Gkiller/20G. Can you guys help me by giving me some opinions and experiences???

Big 16 will get you into the 12's 20g will have that little extra lag but also will give that extra little power to be in the 12's but not have to be on the edge of tuning.

Later,

now would be a time you should get ready to get the clutch on your wish list :p and remember injectors plus a pump

ya, i'm getting new clutch at the same time as the install of turbo/tranny rebuild, that's only if i have money left from tranny rebuild tho...

I'm thinking about buying the Big 16G sale from FP, since it'd come with fuel pump and install kit for cheaper than other site. but would my car be tuned to the edge to run 12's with that turbo?

or... i can get FP big28 to get into 12's but i don't wanna mod/tune my car to the edge.... What do you guys think??? get bigger turbo and be safe? or what???

I dont see why the FPT28 shouldn't be enough. That turbo should have no problem making it into the 12's. Isn't the T-28 also a direct bolt on for the 2G? With the 16G/20G you also need an install kit.

ya, FP big28 would be enough, but i don't think i can get one in time, since i need it by sometime mid next month. and i've heard FP big 28 is on back order for about 2 months. Prolly i'll just go with big 16G so i can up grade it to 20G later if i want to.

I was able to consistently run high 12s on an old 14b that now has 150k miles. Its been running that fast since last fall. I'm quite happy. I just borrowed a small 16g to use with my ported 14b turbine housing, and I only picked up a 10th and one more mph so far. My point is that wth a true 16g or big 16g, 12s should not be a problem :) Good luck.

I just ordered my jdm motor. thanks for all the help guys. I want a new turbo really bad. I already have a kand n, buscher downpipe, test pipe, and cat back. I also have a blitz sbc-i and a safc. I want to be in low 11's to mid 10's. What would be the best turbo for me? BR57? Super 20g? Green? Red? or a t3/t4? The intercooler that I am going to buy is a indy race cool. Also i have a jun lightened flywheel and act 2600lbs clutch waiting to be installed when the new engine comes in. Please help.

If you want that you aren't going to get daily street driven at the same time. You will need a FP Red or a bigger turbo and Nitrous.

Later,

Oh boy, get ready for a war. Everyone has their own favorite turbo manufacturer. You can probably achieve your goal with one of many hybrid garrett turbos; FP Red, an ETE52, AGP L3R, or just a full Garrett combination. What's more important is that you have all the supporting mods, correct tuning, and lots of practice:
http://www.dsmtuners.com/tuning-guide/1gturbo/stage2power.php

You didn't mention any fuel mods - and please list out your mods in your Profile so people can better answer your questions. 10's and 11's isn't as easy as a turbo choice.

FP green
AGP L2R
FP 20G
BR20g
FP3055 (when it comes out)

Remember to do appropriate mods first, get your fuel pump, injectors, fuel control, etc... first.
*this advice is somewhat off topic, but you didn't say whether you wanted to buy a turbo right away, or if this was for future planning*

Take it one small step at a time or you will end up with one expensive ass 13sec car that runs like crap. Most people jump in too quick and just say "I want to run 11s tomorrow!". I tried that, it's not really that fun. You spend way to much time working on the car and spend too much money.
Take your time modding it, go have fun racing it. You'll be happier in the end.

I think a 10 second daily driven DSM is a myth. Most people can barely keep a 13 second DSM together. If you want a car that you afraid to break and will hardly ever drive on the street get one of the turbos Nick mentioned. If you want a daily driver that is awesome, fun and semi-reliable go with a small 16G, big 16G or 18G. You will love that car as a daily driver.

Just go with the 20G and an external w/g from the bat. A properly setup 20G should have no more lag issues than if you had a 14B on a stock DSM.

low 11's will be a stretch, if you want mid 11's go with at ETE32 or the new agp L2R. keep in mind you will need many more mods to support any of the turbos suggested. a 18G is a complete waste of time, get a big 16 or go for the 20G:rolleyes: with all the new ball bearing turbos out there to not get a bolt on ball bearing turbo would be foolish. for the goals you have set for you're car. 1 low 11's (which will be hard) and 2 trying to remain streetable.

Ahh, a truly helpful thread with no bashing - you guys are bringing a tear to my eye. :D

Keep in mind that 11's and below will push your drivetrain to the limit, so tranny rebuilds and new transfer cases/rear ends will be in order. You're also likely going to experience other parts failing and will have to devote alot of time and money to repairs. It's not as simple as bolting on parts and a turbo. All cars that go that fast have the same problems. I'd recommend keeping your goal to low 12's and avoid having to rebuild the whole car - unless you have the money for it. If you hit an 11 every now and then, great!

Ryan, check with LarryD in a week or two, as he just bought that turbo and should have some first hand experience to share with you. I do believe it's a very streetable turbo.
