Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

then show me some dyno slips or track times from these RS49t/60t's. I have no problem with the FP turbo's that bolt on, because they have proven themselves, but as far as some of these other bolt-on's, in particular the RS's, since thats what everyone in this thread is gloating about I want to see some time's or numbers. there is all of this talk, but wheres the walk?

hey i am FWD too. I have a percision 60 trim and a set a HKS cams. The car tears up the road. Roll on the power at 50mph burn the tires and the car pulls hard to the stock 7500rmp redline like it is its job. love the turbo and the lag isnt too bad Mark

yep, they can perform that well... when they are backed behind a stroked or sprayed motor, in which you just showed us. those are PTE's however. I'm wanting to see some AGP RS series turbo's, you know the ones that everyone are posting about. oh there so cheap, oh they perform so well, wheres the times? Like I have already said there are some proven bolt on turbo's but a lot of these new bolt-ons that are poping up are not getting the job done.

I'm not sure exactly what makes a turbine housing "too small", but 10.64 @ 140.93 mph with a 2.3L motor, and a SCM61 bolt-on turbo, you can clearly see that the bolt-on turbo is for sure too small for a long stroke motor.

I'd probably just go ahead and assume he's lying about the track since the video appears to be down and he's Canadian. ;)

*Edit* His English isn't perfect, perhaps he is confused as to what model turbo he has.

haha, thanks for the support. just wanting to see if these things have any balls, because from what I have seen they need the .63 housings to really kick ass.

Neither have I seen any conclusing evidence that a 2.3L/2.4L "needs" any larger exhaust than a 2.0L. Maximum exhaust output is limited by the turbos compressor, not by the motor.

I agree with you on that I just want to add that the 2.3L/2.4L only flow more exhaust if the redline is the same on the 2.0L & 2.3L/2.4L. A 2.4L making power to 7500 would make a 2.0L redline to 8900 to move the same amount of air. So the 2.3L/2.4L doesn't need a bigger exhaust than a 2.0L it just can do the same thing with less revs and make more tq.

If you're only looking to make 400WHP a good 50 trim will work fine. If you check out our web site at victory performance you will find a project car tested recently with a 60-1 turbo made over 500 WHP. 509 to be exact.

The bullseye housing, which allows you to run the stock manifold, works very well for most applications up to 550HP. You'll notice it's not even an option for cars wanting to make more than 600HP. I know there are cars making big power on the housing, however if your designing a system to make 600WHP or better using a standard T3 or T4 housing is much more efficient.

Good luck!

id go to the track if i had some time but i got to work all the time. but my AGP RS60t pulls hard at 13 psi, i have to struggle to keep it in a straight line in 3rd gear. a wideband and an external gate are also good investments. :dsm:

The FP housings are too small for a 2.3. They dont flow nearly as well as 4bolt T3 housings.

FP30 housing design information from the vendor, with pictures.

"On the other hand, most aftermarket housings like the FP30 and Garrett T31 housings have a better shaped volute patterned after Garrett Motorsports housings for maximum efficiency."

This is my new setup, whats your guy's opion on rated HP E/T's etc.. and im getting a new job thus larger turbo FMIC BOV ect...better everything what should i run turbo wise? t3/t4 hybrid? 16g? t4? t3? please give me your guy's input :dsm:

:dsm: just give me a heads up on what needs to go on next what should b done to make this thing eat V8's....more...since i live north of flint michigan (motor city) its either muscle or mudding trucks so its tough having a nice car in a 1 track mind town if you know what i mean :dsm:

Keep the 1g BOV and "crush" it to hold more pressure. Ditch your exhaust and find something 3". Since you're new to this, I'd start out with a 16g variant. After you learn to tune then move up to something else. You want to have fun with your vehicle........not blow it up.

So true! blowing up isn't always fun! thats how i got here! and into this engine, my dad while i was at work tried to surprise me by his genius timing skills and i came home to my #1 piston dented to crap and TWO exhaust valves snapped off and lounging on the tired piston head...but I'm not farley new Ive been a dsm fan since b4 the ### and the curious (even tho the first movie wasn't really that bad, it sparked the ricer revolution) the first import car i liked was an eclipse so i know a lil about a lil but your right about tuning i need experience in that so keep up the opinions i want this to b a badass car! :dsm: but still...not blow it up

Hi,

I know it's discussed over and over,
but I still can't decide wich turbo to get.

I want a good turbo for the street/daily driven/reliable (about 300-380whp).
How are the 50 trim, do the hit hard when they reach full boost or do they
build boost up pretty decent?
If I'm on the street and want to overtake a car, isn't it bad, if you move out and then
you have to wait cause the turbo lag of the 50trim? could I overtake faster with a FP BIG28? because it's a more streetable turbo?

also very important is for me a very goot top end power, since I'm
often in Germany and they do not have speedlimits on some hyways (spell?) ;)

hope to get some help :)

thanks

Mike

There are many you can go with....Here are MY considerations. I'm more of a street person, here in lowell, I have the fastest DSM and I like to keep a low profile :shhh:

I went with a Killer T-28. I love that turbo....I wish i could have it next to me when I go to bed at night.....The Evo 3 is also nice. There are just some things you want to keep in mind. What sounds like you want is quick response and top end. The bigger the turbo, the less response you have but you have some nice top end. If you go to MachV.com, they have a nice turbo chart. If I were you, go with the Killer t-28 or the evo 3. Whats good about the Killer is that its direct bolt on (no hassle with J pipe this and I need a kit that). I have nothing to say about the evo 3...its a nice turbo though.....

I forgot to ask, I'm assuming this is Hp at the wheels?

that changes everything...AHHHHHH. Well, I have 348 to the wheels on a Killer T-28 and I'm thugging it....muhaha. Just keep in mind that when you do get a new turbo, you will need to have a couple more mods done to actually take full advantage of the investment. When you do the following, I would consider a 4 point harness, its going to be a hell ride.....(as usual i'm stuck in college so I like to pretend I'm cracking jokes)

-Fuel Pump
-Downpipe, catback,....eyyy pretty much a whole exhaust
-Injectors
-fuel Pump
-SAFC
-boost controller (I went with a profec A by greddy at first, then I just got a nice Greddy e-01 with this cool LCD display...THANK YOU GREDDY!!!!!, It does alot and its upgradable by harnesses greddy sells for it. I use it for boost and as a AFC)
-don't forget that 4 point harness....joke :toobad:

Here's that link.....

http://www.machv.com/tursumchar.html

Let me know what you go for, I'm always curious to know about what people decide on turbo's.

(can I have some + feedback....I hate beingi a rookie.... )

When you compare the T28, Evo3 and a 50trim, the T28 is a faster spooling turbo and is a direct bolt on. Even with the T28 you have choices: the FP T28, AGP T28 and the T28 Killer. With either turbo you'll need supporting mods to get the most out of it.

I have decided to upgrade my turbo on my 92 tsi. Im thinking about the evoIII turbo. if i get that one does it bolt right on or do i need some modification. also when i do that are there any other mods that i should do to keep it running right. :talon:

Nope it bolts right up (just need new gaskets) but a 2g ex. manifold or an evo 3 manifold would be nice. And also a datalogger would be good just to make sure everything is ok. Depending on the amount of boost you want to run you might need to upgrade the feul system.
