Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

Unfortunatly yes. Was my first time racing at the track. Suffering from alot of issues that aren't turbo related. Right now I'm stuck on 550s. That run was at ~14 psi. My logger had died, and I've got 4 completely blown shocks. I'm no tuning expert either. Just didn't have the money to get the few things that I need to take care of done, nor the time to do them.

I know my times suck...Next spring they should get much better ;)

Okay, I was wondering. Don't feel bad, I had a nice setup in my car but the only one time I ran it at the track (1/8th mile), I had a blown head gasket, very weak slipping pressure plate, and no tune at all. Ran 9.0's the whole day :( On a SBR GT-13 for that matter. It was the dying motor though I believe.

Yeah, I hate that feeling. Next season I'll have my suspension fixed, and hopefully be running a megasquirt with an appropriate injection setup for this turbo. The MS just makes sense for me for alot of reasons. Oh and getting rid of the stock FPR will let me get this thing tuned alot better than it is now. I'm also going to be putting a 1g head and IM on the car. I'm reallylooking forward to E85 becoming available in my town. Right now the nearest place to get the stuff is an hour away.

So thats a 2.0 block with a ridiculous bore?

This this thread is worthless as there's too many variables like manifolds, intercoolers, piping size, compression ratio, etc etc etc.

it's not worthless if we can look at the mods they have and then compare the turbo and spool times. if someone has similar mods, then you'd have an idea around when "x" turbo would be spooling for you.

i agree with both of you (v8's are slow and Stapl3). it depends on there tuning, which can very outragiously. and a few different simple things can change a lot. people that run just wastegate spring spool there turbo a lot later, that the same setup with a boost controller. another example would be if you play with the fuel at the exact point where your turbo spools, causing the A/F ratio to get hotter causes the turbo to spool up faster because they run better off heat.

there are just way too many variables. if seen T70's get 22psi by 4000rpms(without spray)... and i have seen FP Greens get 25psi by 4100rpms..(without spray). and the T70 is almost double the size of the 50 trim Green.

but it is a good post for the fact of knowledge and to get a idea of what could happen for your own setup.

No that's a 2.4L block with pistons.

Im using the evoIII gt right now and i really think its alot better than the t-28 i had before... it spools up rediculously fast and is able to hit 24 lbs by around 4500...

And you're running a stroker right? What's an EvoIII gt? Anything like the Evo 16g? If so, I'd think it'd spool a lot fast than that on a stroker.

I have 2 turbos for my car i dont know which is better. The part number on one is a TDO4hl.The second one is a MHIT005-12b..Thanks for any help.... :dsm: :talon: :laser:

i dont think the td04 will bolt up to the stock exaust manifold, so i dont know if this should even be a problem, compair the bolt paterns on the turbine inlet and tell us if they are the same on both turbos

No kidding. The evo 3 gt is that chinese version of the MHI evo 3. There was a big thread on it earlier. That is some slow spool though. With my B16g that I had before I had 18psi before 2500 in 3rd.

Hows it going everybody? New to the forum my names Matt. Im 20 from Pa.

I own a 95 GSX. My current mods are:

6bolt motor swap
14b turbo
greddy type-s bov
hks turbo timer
190 walboro fuel pump
injen intake
dsmlink
short shifted
act 2100
full cat back exhaust
eibach coilovers
o2 dump

I took my car to a shop to have a rebuild about a year ago. They cracked the block by taking it out on a test drive and beating the hell out of it (not letting the new parts sit properly) they test it and ran it around the block a few times at 20psi. Well they gave it back to me and told me it was a bad knock sensor. BULLSHIT... Anyway i could do nothing about it because they said I could of done the damage. LONG STORY SHORT. Im stripping the aftermarket parts and getting a new 6bolt stock block. My question is this..

I had a 14b turbo before and it pulled hard. It was a nice sprint turbo. Spooled very fast. But i have the option of getting a bigger one, due to the fact that i wont allow a used turbo to touch this new block. Would 16g be good? I know they spool slower but have higher top end. Then again some friends said i should look into the EVOiii big 16g. I guess im left with either sticking to 14b, or upgrading.

What are the pros and cons of each? And if you guys were in my position, which would you choose?

Appreciate all your help, and look forward to getting to know all of you.

Most here would probably say an Evo3 16g. If you're looking for quick spool and good mid-range with respectable hp, you can't go wrong with it.

so since i have a 6bolt i can purchase one online and basically it will directly bolt right on? I have the supporting mods to handle that kind of boost ? You got a good website?

I recommend forced performance. But, do some research yourself on these companies. Alot of great ones and alot of bad ones out there. As far as supporting mods, you have the mods to properly tune it. DSM link and a boost controller being the important ones. Just watch knock count and adjust accordingly. :thumb:

well i dont know shit about tuning it yet. I have a shop that handles that. But would a evoiii 16g be a good choice? or should i stick to the 14b? I want a turbo that spools fast but something has has nice top end too? IDeAs?
