Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

i have a 1991 Eclipse GSX m/t. it has 122K on it. i am planing on buying a new turbo this winter and installing it once the winter season passes. I hear a lot about the 16g and wanted to know what other options you guys recommend. I am looking to stay in the 300-400 hp range. And also what other supporting mods would you recommend. so far all i have installed on my car is magnecor ignition wires, ngk spark plugs, gauges(boost, water temp and oil pressure), and apexi turbo timer. Everything else is completely stock. Any of your thoughts would be helpful. thanks!

I would recommend an EVO III 16g for your setup. Its a wonderful turbo as long as you want to stay at/under 400hp. It can work well with your stock setup, and become better and better as you add mods. They can be had for ~$450ish brand new from our many vendors.

hey whats up guys. i haven't posted in a while but here's the question. Im finally at the point of getting a turbo upgrade, maybe some second opinions will help. i took my talon off the road a month ago basically for the winter but I'm also not planning on putting it back on the road until Im completly done with what i have planned for it.

my current mods:
front mount, 680's, 255 pump and all supporting mods.

before I put it back on the road, im gonna be doing a tranny rebuild/upgrade : shim and replace pivot ball, double synchro 1st, 2nd, and 3rd

2600 clutch light weight flywheel

fully built cylinder head, cometic head gasket, arp head studs, 272's intake and exhaust

and finally turbo upgrade. i already have narrowed it down to a couple different turbos

what turbo would be my best bet to go with????
I'm gonna be having slowboy dyno tune also

thanks alot i appreciate the feed back

i do want something fairly big but nothing crazy. i wanna get the turbo that will run most efficient according to the mods i have i was thinking 50 trim fp possibly. Im pretty sure i can go bigger the a b16g. Im gonna be tuning with pump gas basically a daily driver also im staying internally gated. someone told me 60-1 but i think its a little too big considering im keeping my internals stock.
i am thinking 50 trim, 22-23 psi on pump

Hey guys, guess what's in my pocket.

You're asking an impossible question to answer. Turbos are a personal perference just like the cd's in their cd players. We can't tell you unless you tell us some stuff.

Im not sure theres much more i can tell about my car
a turbo isnt a personal preference, you can stick a huge turbo in any car. but its gonna do more harm then good

i thought a 60-1 was most efficient at like 25 psi and above Im pretty sure i wouldnt safely be able to run that w/ my setup

I appreciate the feedback

You are nuts. There are different styles of driving and racing.

Bad tuning does more harm than good. The turbo has nothing to do with it.

Let me get this straight, you are deciding between a b16g, 60-1, or maybe a 50 trim....? Thats kinda like saying i dont know if i want to buy the Enzo or the SRT-4.

For pump gas and 22-23psi I would take the 50 trim over the 60-1

I say this too. Looking at the compressor map at 2.7Pr(25 psi), the 50 trim stays above 70% efficiency all the way to 44 lbs/min or so. 50 trims are d@mn efficient. They are the best for pump gas and 400 whp. You're current mods can take you to 400-450 whp.

What's your goals: trailer queen or street shreader; do you want to be able to pull up to a premium gas pump or do you have c16 in the basement?

i am about to build a 2.4 g4cs and i was wondering which turbo i should get i want to have about 350-400hp any info would be appreciated thanks

i can usually afford anything i just have to save since i have no bills and am guaranteed $700 every 2 weeks for the next 2.5 years

I have a 97 gst with a 6 bolt motor. the bottom end is fully built forged internals with a stock ported head. in the future i plan on putting a built head on to rev higher.im a little worried about traction problems with fwd. i cannot make up my mind on which turbo would be best for me. i was looking at a 60-1 from precision the dual ball bearing. then i was wondering if it may be a little small. i also was looking at the FP3065 but was thinking it may be a little too big. im looking to have a daily driver running mid to low 11's. any comments or ideas? thanks:dsm:

well.. just making a lot of power isn't going to put you into the 11's. especially with FWD (Yes, I know). Do not look at at turbo for max HP, because you will probably never hit the numbers vendors put out. If I were you, and I was very serious about going 11's in a FWD, then I would go with the FP3065. On pump gas you could very easily dyno above 400 WHP and if you had traction, would be sitting pretty close to 11's.

but yea, the 60-1 is also a great turbo. so either one would be nice to go with.

p.s., do your research and make your own opinion

i want to boost 5 psi daily, and with a flip of a switch go to 8 for a little extra hp. i know how to do that mod but my question is which turbo should I get?

I want to be spooled at 3000 latest, but I also want the biggest turbo that I can get for the most flow.

I looked around, got a 13g, figured it was too small, sold it, looked at 14b and t3s, unsure if I want that or bigger, seen t3/t4 getting better, then I seen someone with a 60 trim, but spools at 3500 for 8 psi, which is a bit too late. I am willing to purchase a turbo and swap the compressor housing

shit, for what youre asking, a t25 would suffice.

but for lower psi and higer gains, its best to go with a turbo meant to flow lots of air at relatively little boost pressures.

a 60trim will be too much, and those dont liven up till 20+psi.

a really small turbo like the t25 will spool way before 3k(expect 5-8psi a little before 2.5k, if that), but it doesnt flow much air.

id definately, go with a 14b or small16g, and get the turbine housing ported, with a larger flapper. thisll help keep the boost from creeping up. you might need a different WG spring as well, though i was able to set 10psi on my evo16g and hold it to redline without creeping when i wanted it to(i had a dual stage mbc, dejon tool, low 10psi, flicked the switch to 20 once i got moving).
