Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

When you do swap out the 20g, I'll gladly take it off your hands. PM me when you do.

haah i was thinking the same. hey i give you my T25 you give me 20G PM ME :thumb:

Save yourself a crapload of money, like suggested, and just turn down the boost. Leave it down unless you're at the track.

If all else fails, make your dad an offer he can't refuse. ;>

isnt the lowest boost on the 20g's with internal gate about 15psi? its running 17 now, 2psi wont bring it down that much.

It depends on the wastegate actuator. If for some reason, your actuator will only let you go to 17PSI, you could replace the actuator with one from a 14b/16g if it's a TD05H-20G. I'm not sure about compatibility between TD05H and TD06, though, so if it's a TD06-20G I'd try calling around to different DSM vendors to see if they have a solution for you.

If nothing else, you could pop off an intercooler pipe and tell your dad that you lowered the boost and take him for a ride. It'll be really slow then. :D

Why not just back down the boost?
Amen
Simply remove your foot from the pedal on the far right sometime also.
If you want your dad to let you keep the car the way it is then treat the car with alot of respect and care. I know it sounds stupid when I say respect a car but honestly respect that cars power, respecting it and knowing it's limits as well as yours will keep you safe.

what aftermarket upgrade turbo would be best for my car. i have a 95 gst eclipse and im upgrading the turbo but i dont no wich turbo is bigger or wich one will be best for me to upgrade to if some one could emasil me to tell me that would bve great.. thank you

Thats way to vague of a question. First things first, you need to get the proper supporting mods on the car before you go shopping for turbos. Give us a list of your mods and it will be 100% more helpful. As for a good street turbo, its really up to you and your goals. Seems like the most popular upgrade is the small 16g or evo 16g. I myself have the small 16g and ive been more then happy w/ it. Its also got tons of potential to go into the 350hp+ range. For the money, id say 16g, but give us a little more info if you want a better answer.

Well, we need to know your current mods and what are your intensions with the car. Drag, autocross, dailydriven? If you are stock, put a 14b on it and be happy. If you want more than that, do the supporting mods first and then go with something bigger.

i have a ractive air filter and exhaust. Its been bord with lighter waight ceramic coated pistons, and a little bit of head work done to it at a machine shop, and thats about it. my intintions with the car is just a fast street racing car. its my every day drive car when its not broke down.

Right now I have a small 16G. I'm looking to upgrade within the next few months. I need to get rid of this turbo because I heard the j-pipe will get in the way if you decide to go with a Greddy 24R FMIC (which I will need because RRE UICP routes back to stock SMIC.)

I want a turbo that .. :

Decent spool .. Lag is a biatch.
Best bang for the buck.
Will eventually get me into low 12s.
Good on a daily driver.
Will work with Greddy 24R FMIC that routes to stock SMIC location.

Thanks.

You are FWD, lag isn't a biatch it is your friend. Lag=time to gain traction. Once you are in powerband you'll stay there.

GReddy FMIC is muh but it'll work.

I would suggest a PTE 50trim or RS49. Essentially the same turbo. Both can power 450whp with full spool around 3800 depending on mods and EXCELLENT flow on pump gas. Seen AWD models trap 119 on it, so you can definately get a ton of use from it. :thumb:

Nice... Sounds good.

I also want a turbo that will give me little to no complications with my current setup. I use my car as a daily driver so it doesn't see too much garage time.

Current mod list : s16g, injen intake, rre uicp and tb elbow, rre downpipe, apexi n1 exhaust, mbc, apexi s-afc2, walbro 190fp, greddy type s bov

Unfotunately the injen intake only fits on TD05 turbos as far as I know, so you'll have to swap that out. Everything else will mesh with it fine. The 50trim is king of pump gas HP. You'll love it. And at $850, it is the best deal out there.

pte 50 trim, maybe some other ones that are out there - you can get a good bang for the buck if you buy it used but make sure you check it out - I wouldn't suggest buying online unless it's via escrow or something along those lines

Im building a 2.3l stroker over the winter to achieve my goal of 650-700whp. I need to know which turbo/s will achieve this number. Im sure there are some BB turbos out there with reasonable spool that can achieve what im trying to do, if anything I can add a little spray to get things going. I know there will be alot of tuning but that wont be a problem. Any ideas ? :talon:

Reasonable spool and 700 WHP typically don't belong in the same area as each other.
I'm running a PT67, I'm seeing 20 pounds of boost by about 6500 RPM's, spinning the motor to over 9000. I'm unsatisfied with the powerband, that's why I'm building a 2.3L stroker to throw in it's place, along with a new GT67 compressor wheel. We just made 601 WHP with this same turbo on a friends 1.8L integra at only 25 pounds of boost, so I think pushing it into the 30's you would be able to make 650+ WHP. Street driving from a very slow roll sucks because it does take a long time to make boost, but if you're launching or going from a faster roll where you can downshift a bunch it's alright. If I'm racing I spray a 125 shot of juice starting @ 3000 RPM's, and I have the AEM shut it off once I push in the clutch or as soon as I see 14 pounds of boost, boost comes on a lot quicker, and it helps smooth out any boost drop off between gears. I don't expect to have to use nitrous when I get the 2.3 and the new compressor wheel in.

It still only hits full boost at 6500rpm even with the spray ? If so thats insane. With the stroker and GT wheel it should help alot in spool time. I never race from a roll only from a dead dig so driving around town lag I wouldnt care about. Theres always the big tradeoff of big power and lag or low power with a quick spool. I guess its not possible to make that much power and hit full boost around 4500-5000 rpm ? If so I could definately live with that.

No, it hits 20 pounds of boost at 6500 off the spray. On the 125 hit it makes 20 pounds by about 5500. I expect stroking it to a 2.3 should bring the spool off juice into the 5800-6000 range by itself, and the GT67 compressor wheel should bring it down another 500 RPM's, so I hope to see that much boost by about 5000-5500 RPM's, then I can ditch the juice. From a dig it isn't too bad, I can make 10 pounds on the 2-step and it comes on pretty quick once I get out of the hole.
