Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.
 
in response to my thread on AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ANY GOOD? i learned alot from the transmission guru's on what i need to build up my tranny and what is needed and where to get it. but now the time comes to select a turbo.

i have been told that a 16g turbo is about all my auto tranny can hold at the present moment (my tranny is still stock). first of all , is this correct? next is there a turbo that i can get that my tranny will be able to hold when its stock while i upgrade my transmission piece by piece? or is the 16g it? once again my goal is about high 12's.

any help here is greatly appreciated

don't know to much about auto trannys but yeh a 16g or big16g could get you in the 12's. Your auto tranny could handle a 60-1 trim T3/T4 right now if you wanted it to...you just wouldn't be able to run high boost. So pick a turbo based on what you want to do in the future not what your tranny can handle now...you can always keep the boost down.
 
would a t3/t4 turbo be better at 12 psi than a 16g at about 18 psi??

basically i want to do what 13 second gst said, i want to put the turbo in and then work my way up with the tranny. any tranny experts let me know what you think is the best turbo for my transmission.

plus you said that a 16g or big 16g would put me into the 12's. does any1 know what the best time any1 has gotten with the a big 16g turbo with an auto tranny????

any1's opinion helps
 
actually i am 99% sure Im going with a t3/t4 60-1, ams in il said it can push about 500-550 whp and they got me a fairly good deal so i think that will be my decision
 
those are pretty big ambitions for a fwd, have fun with it and let us know what happens. I think the Forced Performance new turbo that's out should be good for that kind of power, I believe it's the FP30....
 
dont worry you are only about the 500th person that has said they dont want to burts my bubble...but im not going to be able to accomplish this. I am actually having ams motorsports in illinois build my car so Im an idiot but they arnt, they built lots of 500hp eclipses. when you say you dont think it will be streetable, what exactly do you mean? it will have to much power, i dont know what im doing...etc. a lot of people say it wont be streetable but in way do you mean? i hope that question makes sense.

You're turbo won't spool until 5k RPMs. As soon as it makes boost you're gonna be spinning and torque steering across the road. You're going to break every drive train part at least once on slicks. The list goes on...
 
OK...Some of you know I have no license..so I decided to sell my 16g turbo..all my greddy piping and type s bov..I got a hks ssq bov...OK now I want to here peoples opinions and what they thought of what they have right now...I was just going to get a 20g..then I decided..to a new Big 16g..then I decided to the .50trim with VPE...then I decided LR with agp...and now I kinda want a T3/T4 setup...my goal is to hit low 12's and maybe high 11's later....basically i just don't want to small now and get bigger later...I am so indecisive and never happy of what i got...but for this cuz its a very expensive..I just want to do this once...At least I know I am going with the Victory Performance Super Street FMIC....I have every supporting mod..so thats not a big deal...just need to find out what I want...i want to order this in like a week or so...

Yeah..right now I have a evo 02..which i am happy with..but then I can sell my evo 3 exhaust mani and evo 02 housing..and that would lower the cost to...also my other question is I am kinda worried of emissions...I know AWD vehicle you just do a idle test but with a external wastegate do you pass visual inspections.. with no prob...
 
long as the wastegate routes back into the exhaust before your cat, shouldn't you be okay? That is how it's set up w/ internal gate.

Hmmm the internal gate just goes back into the 02 housing...I don't feel like taking this whole setup somewhere and having the dump tube welded into the exhaust again..I have thought about it but rather have it dump to atmosphere....
 
If your in Phoenix, just get the AGP kit. They are local!

Kevin can also make you an intercooler. He has done all the local ones with great success. Hell, drop your car off at his house for a week and pick it up a happy man. :thumb:
