Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

yes it has been beat to death, and u didn't tell us what kind of car you have either.. before you even think about getting a turbo you should upgrade your fuel system and get rid of that crappy stock bov.. you have a ways to go before you should start picking turbos out:thumb:

yeah I know...but I like to research and I was wondering about turbos only....not supporting mods. I know what do in that department, I was just wondering through your alls experience which one was best for what I said. I drive a 95 gst I thought you would see that by my name.

Go w/ the 20G or if you have the money a SBR GT10. That's basically a ball-bearing 20G. Don't be worried w/ lag, it's way overated unitl you strap on one of them big 60 trim t3/t4 joints. 20g may be a litttle more expensive intially but your wasting your money if you go w/ anything less. Believe me and prolly 90% of the other guys on this board would agree. And if you think well I only want 3xx at the wheels you'll never see it w/ anything less than a 20G. You wouldn't run a 16g or t28 @24psi w/ race gas all the time to see 300whp. Your gonna want something in the 18-20 psi range on pump gas and put down low 3xx numbers, that my friend would be the 20G. Good Luck!!

...Don't be worried w/ lag, it's way overated unitl you strap on one of them big 60 trim t3/t4 joints....

You can make a 60 trim spool faster than a 20G. 20G's suck for what he is trying to accomplish. Get yourself a 50 trim and call it a day.

Regards,

I would go with a 50 trim for high 11 goal. It is pretty sound. Check into the PTE turbos that companies are starting to sell.

Lag is something that you get used to and learn to drive the car around. I can drive my car (60 Trim) and not even worry about lag.

thank you for your opinions....I am not worried about hp numbers I am just worried about times and street drivability. I dont want to have to turn the boost up and run race gas to get a 11 sec pass.

...I dont want to have to turn the boost up and run race gas to get a 11 sec pass....

Then sell your 4 cylinder import and get a V8.

LOL Harsh...accurate, but harsh.

I am sorry I was a v-8 owner and enthusiat for a very long time. I am kinda old school but I still dont think I should have to run race gas or turn the boost over what I will be running on the street to get great times. but I do agree that was harsh

and I am one of the few, if there are any left, people who believs my car isnt an import.:dsm:

You want a low 12, high 11 sec street car GST without turning up any boost or using race gas. I think your asking a almost impossible question. To get a low 12 sec pass, you are going to need alot of boost. Once you get the power, now the even harder part which is traction. A GST has NO traction whatsoever. You would need a pair of slicks just to pull a decent 60 ft time and slicks are pretty hard on trannies from what I have been told.

Turbo wise, everyone gave turbos able to run those times, but it takes knowledge of tuning and knowing what supporting mods to run those times.

I would set your goals for 13s first then try 12s.

I know I will need boost....I am thinking of 18-20 psi yes traction is a problem. but I just want to know which turbo is best for street and strip at these times.

In a FWD to run an 11 second ET you are going to have to MPH like an SOB. 20G+ at least.

HAHAHAHA:laugh: Very few people have gone 11s on less than 21-22lbs, how do expect to do it on 18-20? Our own rdrkt has gone 12.0@
117 on a 60-1 at 21psi. Any turbo smaller, and it will take EXRTREME
tuning to make 11s a reality on 22psi. 18-20psi, forget it now.

50trim garrett turbo stage 3 exaust wheel and .82a/r(use the 4000rpm spool up to his advantage.) I have heard of 430whp with a 50trim unsure of comp housing, center section, wheel size or a/r. Good Luck with your car and buy slicks.

That would be DREs 432whp I believe it was on the FP Green which if anyone does not know is a 50trim. Regardless I dont see a FWD doing 11s unless your some kind of incredible driver or your running slicks.

Oh and regarding RDRKTs time, that was also on AWD.

Sell your gst and get a gsx that will solve your problems. Unless you are Curt Brown your gonna need over 20psi and race gas. For direct bolt on go with FP Green or even a 20G. If you don't mind changing your exhaust manifold then get a T3/T4 50 trim with a .63 /stage 3 exhaust side.

I am building what I hope to be a 500-600(W.H.P.) gst 2g and I want your opinions on what turbo I should choose to achieve this H.P. level(all of the supporting mods are in place all-ready:engine,tranny, etc.)
I have no budget for the turbo, I just want the best. Tell me what you think. Thank you!

Give Mike Huml at www.Slowboy.com a call. Or just check out there website. He is a nice guy and knows his shit. He can point you in the right direction with your current setup or you could just use the build-your-own option from his site. Never the less, he is the guy to talk to. I am sure there are many reputable companies, SB is the only one I have had personal experience with. That is why I recommend them.

Good Luck in your search!

www.extrememotorsports.com has some pretty serious turbos available. The biggest one is the Frankenstein Level 7 Turbo. You can have them port it as well. This one probably has quite a bit of turbo lag, which is good considering you have a FWD car and you would be spinning wheels all over the place with a quick-spooling high-powered turbo.
